The Sociology Department at Stony Brook University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to begin in Fall 2026. We seek scholars who specialize in issues of global inequality and justice, broadly construed. A research emphasis on issues of race, artificial intelligence, environment, or health are preferred, but not required. The search is open with regard to methodological specialization; we welcome scholars with qualitative and/or quantitative skills.
The Department of Sociology at Stony Brook University is renowned for its focus on global phenomena and their connections to inequalities at the local, national, and international levels. We expect the successful candidates to have a strong commitment to research, teaching, and mentorship. The successful candidates will teach courses related to global inequality and justice at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates who can teach classes in sociological theory at the graduate and undergraduate levels are preferred but not required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Sociology or a related field required or anticipated completion of PhD by August 31, 2026. Research specialization in Global Inequality and Justice.
Preferred Qualifications:
Specialization in the fields of race/ethnicity, artificial intelligence, environment, or health. Experience working with a diverse student body. Experience teaching courses that will contribute to our Sociology major and to our minor in Health, Medicine, and Society. Ability to teach courses in Sociological Theory at both the Graduate and Undergraduate levels.
