    Surgical Technology Clinical Coordinator

    Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

     

    Under the direction of the Surgical Technology Program Director, this is a 12-month contracted faculty position governed by the policies and procedures outlined in the faculty and staff handbook. The Clinical Coordinator assesses, plans, implements, teaches, and evaluates assigned courses within the Surgical Technology program and oversees the clinical practicum of the program. Actively contributes to the development, implementation, assessment and revision of the curriculum and program, including accreditation. The faculty demonstrates knowledge and implementation of higher education philosophy.

     

    Essential Job Functions

     

    In conjunction with the Surgical Technology Program Director, provides primary oversight of all aspects of the clinical phase of the program and progression of students to graduation. This includes recruitment of clinical sites and clinical instructors, mentoring of clinical instructors, working to secure clinical affiliation paperwork and clearance for students to participate with clinical affiliates as well as management of faculty and instructors involved in the clinical education phase of the program.

     

    Designs, develops, delivers didactic/clinical/laboratory instruction, and manages assigned courses including student assessment and academic advising; and coaches’ students and develops plans for remedial instruction or support as needed (Student Success Center).

     

    Contributes to student and/or program academic assessment processes and activities related to ARC/STSA and CAAHEP accreditation, as well as institutional effectiveness, with attention to the clinical phase (e.g. including peer, self, and course review; curriculum design, implementation, coordination and evaluation; program assessment; development, review and revision of program's mission statement, goals, learning outcomes/competencies; scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of student clinical performance; training clinical instructors and clinical staff on student supervision, instruction, and evaluation).

     

    Promotes the Surgical Technology program and profession to potential students and community.

     

    Remains current with trends, issues and practices in the discipline through active involvement in professional development/scholarly activities.

     

    Participates in those activities offered to the college and/or community which are in a faculty member's recognized area of expertise or those that are performed as an institutional assignment/service (including college committees as appointed or elected).

     

    Travel to clinical sites throughout each semester to observe students in the surgical technologist role.

    Employment Qualifications

    Required** **Minimum Education:

    Associates

     

    Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency

    Preferred** **Education:

    Bachelors

    Licensure/Certification** **Required** **:

    Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA); Current CST credential through NBSTSA.

    Minimum Years and Type of Experience** **Required** **:

    Have a minimum of three years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years; Possess knowledge of the curriculum; Possess knowledge about the program’s evaluation of student learning and performance

    Type of Experience:

    Demonstrated experience in clinical, laboratory or classroom setting in appropriate field. Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated use of appropriate technology in the classroom. Flexibility to meet the needs of the specific division and students.
