Job Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine is excited to announce an opening for a **Research Assistant I-IV** . This role supports researchers in planning, maintaining, documenting and/or conducting of research related to the management/control, behavior, and ecology of arthropod vectors (primarily ticks and mosquitoes) and vector-borne pathogens. Additional duties will include laboratory maintenance, inventory maintenance, supply ordering, and other duties as assigned. The selected person for this role will be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings.
Essential Functions
+ Assists in the development of project proposals, plans and protocols.
+ Conducts routine or fundamental experiments, investigations and/or studies related to programs and projects in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques and concepts.
+ Assists with logistical considerations to include equipment, materials, and labor needs.
+ Collects data/samples related to others’ research and in routine cases.
+ Records, compiles, processes and analyzes data/samples.
+ Documents results and observations in writing as well as presenting results to others.
+ May assist in the preparation of research results for publication or presentation at conferences to include assisting in literature reviews and assisting in the writing of results and discussions.
+ May instruct students and/or supervise others’ research in area of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
**Level I** : Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and no experience
**Level II** : Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 2 years of experience in the field of biology, microbiology, parasitology, or equivalent.
**LevelIII** : Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 4 years of experience in the field of biology, microbiology, parasitology, or equivalent.
**Level IV** : Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 6 years of experience in the field of biology, microbiology, parasitology, or equivalent.
**Substitution allowed for Experience** :
A Master’s degree or higher may be accepted in place of experience.

**Level I** : Possesses general knowledge in the field of research, and has working knowledge of equipment, materials and processes related to lab/facility operations, including procedures for observation, documentation and data collection.
**Level II** : Possesses general knowledge in field of research, and has strong knowledge of moderately complex equipment, materials and processes related to lab/facility operations, including moderately complex procedures for observation, documentation and data collect
**LevelIII** : Possesses general knowledge in the field of research, and has expert knowledge of complex equipment, materials and processes related to lab/facility operations, including complex procedures for observation, documentation and data collection.

Desired Qualifications
Experience working with arthropod vectors and vector-borne pathogens is preferred. Experience working inBSL -2 laboratories. Arthropod colony maintenance; cell culture; experience with diverse animal models; basic microbiology methods (culture, quantification); basic molecular biology methods (nucleic acid extraction,PCR ,DNA sequencing); basic serologic methods (ELISA ); experience with experimental design; strong communication and interpersonal skills
