BASIC FUNCTION:
The Director of Environmental Services (EVS) provides leadership, direction, and management oversight to ensure continuous improvement of EVS operations across all Ellis Medicine facilities. This role oversees environmental services for multiple sites, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and appearance for patients, visitors, and staff.
The Director is responsible for staff leadership, operational coordination, regulatory compliance, and sound business decision-making in support of Ellis Medicine’s mission to provide the best possible environment for patient care, safety, service, and value.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
+ Associate degree in hospitality management, facilities management, or related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
+ 8–10 years of continuous acute care EVS director-level experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
+ CHESP certification preferred.
Experience:
+ Minimum of 5 years as an EVS Director in an acute care setting or 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in environmental services required.
+ Experience managing multiple EVS operations preferred.
+ Knowledge of Department of Health and The Joint Commission standards of compliance preferred.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office, health system EHI, financial management software, and EVS-specific applications (purchasing, vendor management, etc.).
+ Working knowledge of EVS floor care equipment and equipment management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is performed primarily indoors under normal working conditions. Requirements include:
+ Ability to push/pull 25 lbs. and lift/move 15 lbs. from floor to table.
+ Ability to perform manual tasks such as typing, writing, and filing for extended periods.
+ Capability to squat, stand, and walk for extended periods.
+ Effective hand-eye coordination for data entry and use of mobile devices.
+ Ability to clearly articulate and comprehend spoken and written English.
+ Operation of all equipment necessary to perform job duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
+ Develop, plan, and oversee all EVS functions in compliance with federal, state, and regulatory standards (DEC, TJC, OSHA, health department, etc.).
+ Implement and maintain quality control programs, hazardous waste programs, and all related documentation/audits.
+ Conduct routine inspections of facilities, oversee survey readiness, and prepare reports as needed.
+ Develop staffing plans and work schedules to ensure coverage and service quality.
+ Lead staff training on EVS policies, procedures, products, and equipment use.
+ Ensure compliance with quality management standards; compile and submit required reports to leadership and regulatory agencies.
+ Manage purchasing, inventory, and equipment maintenance/repairs.
+ Develop and implement safety programs for staff, ensuring adherence to safety, fire, health, and sanitation codes.
+ Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments and external agencies to support customer service and patient satisfaction.
+ Communicate industry trends, operational updates, and department initiatives via meetings, committees, and training sessions.
+ Oversee the department budget: monitor financial performance, identify cost savings, complete variance reports, and maintain required records.
+ Provide leadership for recruitment, retention, staff development, performance management, and employee engagement.
+ Conduct performance reviews, recommend salary adjustments, and foster professional growth opportunities.
+ Support Ellis Medicine’s organizational culture by modeling leadership, communication, and coaching aligned with the Making Ellis Exceptional standards.
+ Participate in employee surveys, review results with staff, and implement improvement action plans.
+ Achieve and maintain HCAHPS scores that meet organizational targets; develop improvement plans as needed.
+ Ensure product and chemical selection aligns with infection prevention and environmental hygiene best practices.
+ Demonstrate analytical skills to assess options and make evidence-based decisions benefiting patients, staff, and facilities.
+ Maintain accuracy in financial reporting, documentation, and communication.

Salary Range: $36.07-54.10 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
