Under general supervision performs skilled mechanical or analytical duties on various projects. May supervise subordinate employees.

Major/Essential Functions:
+ Conduct laboratory safety training for graduate and undergraduate students, and assist with maintaining compliance with university policies.
+ Operation, maintenance of, and training of the proper use of rock sample preparation equipment such as rock saws, jaw crushers, shatter box equipment, gold tables.
+ Produce petrographic thin sections for faculty and student research or classroom instruction.
+ Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and/or fabricate equipment used in various department teaching and research spaces.
+ Assist with maintaining and surveying department inventory records and distributing inventory tags.
+ Miscellaneous and varied duties deemed necessary in support of the Department of Geosciences and Texas Tech University.

Preferred Qualifications:
+ Technical skills and knowledge required to prepare geologic samples for teaching and research.
