UPMC Shadyside is looking to hire a Casual Sr. Wound Care Specialist.
Schedule:
+ 10-hour shifts
+ Daylight
+ Occasional weekends
Responsibilities:
Clinical Expertise & Patient Care:
+ Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship-Based Care to deliver holistic, patient-centered care, addressing clinical, psychological, social, safety, and spiritual needs.
+ Serves as a clinical expert and resource in managing patients with wounds, ostomies, fistulas, incontinence, and skin integrity issues.
+ Conducts stoma site marking and provides follow-up care post-discharge to ensure continuity and quality of care.
+ Incorporates standards from national organizations (e.g., NPUAP, WOCN) and aligns with health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
+ Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment, analytical skills, and critical thinking to guide care decisions and promote healing environments.
Education & Professional Development:
+ Enthusiastically precepts students, graduate nurses, new hires, medical students, and residents.
+ Shares research and professional resources, conducts in-services and lectures, and supports journal clubs and unit-based education.
+ Participates in policy reviews, product evaluations, and evidence-based practice initiatives to enhance care and cost-effectiveness.
+ Actively engages in continuous learning and system-wide WOCN meetings, seeking feedback and applying professional growth strategies.
Leadership & Collaboration:
+ Serves as a role model of professional nursing practice, recognized for clinical leadership, teaching, and evidence-based care.
+ Builds and maintains positive relationships within a healthy workplace culture, modeling cultural awareness and addressing workplace challenges.
+ Promote changes to improve patient care and contributes to the development of unit-based committees and skin care initiatives.
+ Participates in shared governance, peer review, and hospital-wide councils, leading and supporting successful interdisciplinary teams.
+ Completes other assigned tasks as needed.
+ Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
+ BSN required
+ UPMC approved nursing certification required.
+ Certificate of attendance of a WOCN board certified WOCNEP preferred.
+ Annual completion of a VP approved professional contribution selected from one of the corporate nursing goals
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure. Certification in Wound Care required. Certification in wound and ostomy from the WOCN or other UPMC-approved Wound Care Certification preferred. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Special Skills and Abilities Required. Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required. Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physician, non-physician providers. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment and handle multiple and changing priorities.

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
