Nature of Work
Schedules, coordinates, and oversees the daily activities of a designated crews assigned to perform street maintenance and construction of City roadways.
Environmental Factors
Position functions primarily outdoors with exposure to all weather and traffic conditions; exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, noise, dust, dirt, and pollen; may have exposure to open manholes and street excavations with cave-in potential; safety equipment includes vests, hard hat, safety shoes, goggles, and ear protection.
Physical Factors
Heavy physical effort is required to perform job functions in a construction environment including ability to lift and push items weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds and using equipment weighing up to five hundred (500) pounds. Sufficient clarity of speech, hearing, or other communication capabilities, vision or other powers of observation, manual dexterity, and personal mobility and physical reflexes sufficient to effectively and efficiently perform essential job functions.
Work Situation Factors
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, and responding to customer issues. May also involve working extended hours and working during emergency situations. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policy.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Performs as lead worker, inspects completed work and work in progress, to ensure compliance with standards and safety requirements; provides training, guidance, and instruction to staff on proper work procedures; serves as technical support to other workers; maintains accurate and timely work records and logs; serves as a liaison to the supervisor.
• Provides performance feedback, trains, and instructs employees to meet established goals and objectives; participates in staff evaluations with designated supervisor to provide impartial feedback regarding performance; assures that staff maintain safety standards and adhere to policies and procedures for efficient and safe operations.
• Reviews, maintains, and updates records in various formats, mediums, and automated systems to ensure data integrity and adherence to internal controls, practices, and policies; demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless services.
• Ensure appropriate traffic controls and safety procedures are followed to comply with established policies, rules, and regulations.
• Interprets roadway construction plans to make technical field decisions and complete projects in a timely manner; evaluates and recommends the replacement, or repair, of sidewalks to comply with standards and safety requirements.
• Ensures concrete forms are set for pouring concrete and assures appropriate concrete depth is attained to maintain applicable standards and regulations.
• Conducts repairs on storm drain inlets and French drains to maintain functionality.
• Determines quantities of materials and supplies needed to complete projects; coordinates ordering of roadway materials for multiple projects to ensure timely delivery.
• Provides timely responses and resolutions to issues received from customers to maintain positive relations with residents.
• Performs minor concrete repairs around City buildings and facilities as needed and directed.
• May serve as a relief truck driver; may serve as the acting supervisor to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED AND four (4) years of experience in concrete construction and concrete finishing, which includes experience operating backhoes and other job-related equipment. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Licenses/Certification(s)
Valid Class B commercial driver's license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policies.

Knowledge of:principles, practices, techniques, activities, rules, and regulations related to the operations and functions of the position and services provided; current principles of record keeping and records management; principles and practices of effective research methods and data analysis, customer service, and problem resolution techniques; occupational and environmental safety and health hazards, and safety practices; safe and effective use and maintenance of related tools, materials, and equipment; current methods and standards for preparing effective business correspondence; correct English usage, grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; business and personal computers and related software applications; City organization, operations, policies, and procedures to effectively perform the required functions and duties of the position.
Ability to: perform a variety of duties and responsibilities and assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands to meet deadlines; ensure appropriate levels of customer service to achieve expectations and meet objectives; read, understand, and assure compliance with a variety of policies, procedures, rules, standards, and regulations governing related activities and functions; collect applicable information and maintain accurate and timely records; maintain confidentiality of information and data; communicate effectively orally and in writing and use interpersonal skills to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive work direction; prepare and present accurate and reliable information and reports; establish and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; safely and effectively operate relevant tools, equipment, and motorized vehicles; navigate across even and uneven surfaces; timely and accurately enter data and update records using various mediums and formats; take initiative and exercise sound independent judgment within established procedural guidelines and carry out primary responsibilities in accordance with all governing regulations, statutes, and procedures to ensure achievement of goals and objectives.
