Alumni and Stakeholder Engagement (ASE), working in a collaborative partnership with the UW Alumni Association (https://www.washington.edu/alumni/) (UWAA) and UW Retirement Association (https://retirees.uw.edu) (UWRA), fulfills its mission to advance higher education in the state of Washington and to support the UW through impactful, broad-based engagement with alumni, students, retirees and friends of the University. Alumni & Stakeholder Engagement has an exciting opening for a Director for UW Alumni Tours. This is a full-time, permanent position.
The Director for UW Alumni Tours oversees the strategy, execution and evaluation of the UW Alumni Association’s alumni and friends travel program, a program designed to engage diverse audiences of UW alumni, retirees and friends in profound, meaningful and inclusive ways.
This role has direct operational oversight for the financial, administrative and personnel activities of the UW Alumni Tours program. The Director supervises a team of two full- and part-time staff, exercises independent budget authority and is responsible for overall program development, assessment and evaluation.
What You Will Do:
_Program Development and Strategy (45%)_
+ Refine the value proposition for the UW Alumni Tours program. Identify and implement drivers to increase trial, loyalty and brand ambassadorship in collaboration with partners across the UW.
+ Foster a culture of stewardship among past travelers with the goal of encouraging continued and deepening engagement with the UW beyond their travel experience.
+ Integrate and advance UW commitments and objectives related to access, opportunity and belonging across program strategy and implementation, including audience engagement and retention, program and content co-creation and community-centric assessment and evaluation.
+ Build, maintain and strengthen professional relationships with colleagues across the travel industry, including tour operators, travel program staff at peer institutions and peers within the affinity-based travel sector.
_Program Administration and Team Management (45%)_
+ Select, plan and oversee the execution of 40-50 tours annually.
+ Prepare staff and volunteer hosts for travel, including pre-tour briefings, coordination of travel arrangements and response to emerging issues while on tour.
+ Negotiate contracts with tour operators, insurance vendors and other entities related to the travel program.
+ Establish annual revenue targets and operating budgets in collaboration with leadership and within the organizational budgeting process.
+ Develop and maintain a risk management plan for UW Alumni Tours in alignment with industry best practices.
+ In collaboration with marketing and communications colleagues, develop a comprehensive and responsive marketing strategy for UW Alumni Tours.
+ Supervise the Associate Director of UW Alumni Tours and additional temporary and/or student employees. Develop plans for training, retention, professional development, successful communication and expectation setting.
_Other duties as assigned (10%)_
What You Bring:
+ Knowledge of or experience working in affinity-based group travel.
+ Experience and established philosophy of supervision and management of staff and volunteers.
+ Experience managing a business unit with profit and loss responsibility, including financial goal setting and business plan development.
+ Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently and effectively.
+ Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability and strong attention to detail.
+ Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
+ Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
+ Ability to obtain a passport and travel internationally up to five times per year.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree AND five years of experience in travel industry management or related field.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details
Pay Range Minimum:
$102,000.00 annual
Pay Range Maximum:
$110,004.00 annual
