Join ClimateIQ ( https://climateiq.org ), an open-access AI climate risk tool being developed by a team at NYU’s Urban Systems Lab (USL) supported by Google.org and global partners, and help cities and communities around the world prepare for extreme weather and climate hazards.     We are seeking a dynamic Technical Lead / Program Manager with experience in product development, start-ups, or interdisciplinary technology projects. You will oversee the end-to-end development of ClimateIQ, guiding a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and designers to deliver powerful, actionable insights through intuitive dashboards, APIs, and geospatial analytics.

    Responsibilities Program Leadership & Management

    + Coordinate with senior lab leadership to reach alignment on priorities and milestones, while managing the day-to-day operations of NYU’s ClimateIQ program.

    + Lead the end-to-end technical program management for ClimateIQ, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.

    + Manage and optimize project resources, schedules, and deliverables, working closely with cross-functional teams to meet strategic objectives.

    + Maintain organized and logical documentation throughout the project life-cycle including design, development, test, and launch phases and organized project records.

    + Proactively identify and mitigate project risks through effective planning and communication strategies.

    + Oversee development workflows, ensuring seamless integration of diverse modeling outputs and product optimization.

    + Proactively identify potential obstacles and opportunities to improve efficiency of overall product development process

    Coordination & Team Oversight

    + Supervise, mentor, and coordinate a multidisciplinary team of climate scientists, engineers, and user research.

    + Facilitate and lead sprints, reviews, and stakeholder meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across the team.

    + Represent ClimateIQ and USL in various forums, emphasizing clear communication and stakeholder engagement.

    + Support proposal writing by contributing to project planning and methodologies for grant applications.

    Product & Stakeholder Engagement

    + Collaborate with UX researchers and designers to ensure technical outputs are effectively translated into user-friendly dashboards and APIs.

    + Serve as the primary technical liaison to key partners, including Google, city governments, and other collaborators.

    + Co-develop and manage timelines for product releases and publications, ensuring coordinated efforts across all teams.

     

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $75,000-$85,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Advanced degree in computer science, software engineering, business management, data science or related field.

    + Proven experience in technical or product/program management, ideally with start-up or digital product experience.

    + Experience in leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

    + Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills, with an emphasis on leading diverse teams.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Prior experience with geospatial data, developing software applications , and data driven dashboards

    + Prior experience in the climate sector, climate tech, and climate risk and adaptation tools

    + Experience working with agencies, NGOs, or international organizations
