About the Role
Asplundh is hiring a Director of Operations to join our fast-track leadership development program, designed to prepare experienced operations leaders for future executive-level roles within our organization. This role is ideal for candidates with a background in Utility Vegetation Management, field services, fleet-based operations, infrastructure maintenance, construction, waste services, or utility contracting, who are looking to apply their experience to large-scale, high-impact operational leadership.
Over the course of 12 to 18 months, the selected candidate will work directly under the guidance of a Regional Vice President, gaining first-hand exposure to the operational, financial, and safety aspects of our vegetation management business. This is a field-intensive role that requires a presence on job sites, in operational yards, and in front of customers.
Upon successful completion of the program, the Director of Operations will be positioned to assume full leadership of a business unit with P&L responsibility, operational oversight, and workforce leadership.

Key Responsibilities
+ Manage day-to-day operations of regional field services to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of vegetation management contracts.
+ Oversee performance against KPIs, ensuring contract specifications, crew productivity, and financial targets are met or exceeded.
+ Build strong customer relationships, particularly with utility companies, municipalities, and infrastructure clients.
+ Assist with estimating, bid development, and pricing strategies across a range of contract types (T&M, unit-based, lump sum).
+ Provide leadership, guidance, and support to field supervisors and crew leaders, promoting a strong culture of safety and encouraging a high-performance mindset.
+ Provide operational insight for long-term business planning and budgeting efforts.
+ Monitor job site performance, production data, and cost controls; troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications
+ 10+ years of experience in field operations, fleet-based services, or infrastructure-related industries (e.g., utility contracting, construction, oil & gas, telecom installation, vegetation management, or waste services).
+ 5+ years of direct leadership experience managing multi-site or multi-crew field teams
+ Strong leadership experience managing multi-site or multi-crew field teams.
+ Demonstrated experience with operational logistics, resource allocation, and client-facing service delivery.
+ Proven track record of delivering projects on time, on budget, and safely.
+ Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred but not requireda
+ Willingness to travel 50-75% and be hands-on in the field.
