    General Purpose

     

    Develops engineering standards, studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Company’s Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS – static synchronous compensators, static VAR compensators, thyristor-controlled series capacitors, series capacitors, power electronic converters, control systems), and other substation related equipment. This role supports the reliability, efficiency, and modernization of the transmission grid through the integration of advanced power electronics technologies.

    Responsibilities

    The **Engineer I** responsibilities include:

    + Assist in updating and maintaining documentation and engineering standards for FACTS and other substation equipment to match industry standards.

    + Perform basic technical reviews of supplier documentation and specifications.

    + Support senior engineers in data collection and analysis for FACTS performance.

    + Participate in training and development programs related to power electronics and grid modernization.

    In addition, the **Engineer II** responsibilities include:

    + Perform technical evaluations of FACTS equipment and assist in equipment selection.

    + Collaborate with planning and operations teams to ensure standards meet system needs.

    + Support procurement, commissioning, testing, operations and maintenance of FACTS equipment.

    + Conduct basic modeling and simulation of FACTS behavior under various grid conditions and provide recommendations to management.

    + Guide and direct lower-level engineers, technicians and drafters.

    + Develop moderately complex electrical engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments.

    + Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish assigned work.

    + Ability to travel 10-20% domestically and internationally to support projects with overnight stays.

    In addition, the **Senior Engineer** responsibilities include:

    + Lead the development and revision of FACTS standards and technical guidelines.

    + Lead troubleshooting, diagnosis, and root-cause failure analysis of FACTS equipment and develop corrective action and predictive maintenance plans to improve reliability.

    + Oversee vendor qualification and ensure equipment complies with PacifiCorp standards.

    + Perform advanced modeling and analysis of FACTS devices using Company tools.

    + Provide technical leadership in FACTS integration projects and grid modernization efforts.

    + Provide technical training, supervision and guidance to the engineering team.

    + Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to engineering standards.

    + Under limited direction, oversee the specification, design, and maintenance of the following transmission and distribution electrical equipment: power transformers, breakers, capacitor banks, instrument transformers, voltage regulators, switchgear, surge arresters, circuit switchers, transrupters, and battery banks.

    Requirements

    The **Engineer I** requirements include:

    + Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college/university.

    + Basic knowledge and application of principles in transmission systems and reactive power concepts.

    + Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations (if required for the position).

    + Ability to interact favorably with project and work teams.

    + Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and make recommendations.

    + Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.

    In addition, the **Engineer II** requirements include:

    + A minimum of 2 years’ experience in electric utility power systems, substation equipment, transmission engineering, or preferably direct FACTS experience.

    + Familiar with FACTS devices and power system modeling tools.

    + Knowledge and application of principles in an engineering specialty/area.

    + Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Codes.

    + Understanding of Company’s business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.

    + Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining ethical standards, focus and professionalism.

    + Ability to meet project deadlines and exercise good engineering judgement with limited information.

    In addition, the **Senior Engineer** requirements include:

    + A minimum of 5 years’ experience in electric utility power systems, substation equipment, or transmission engineering, including 2 years’ minimum direct FACTS experience.

    + Proficiency in simulation tools and FACTS performance analysis.

    + Proficient with the use of personal computers, plotters, printers, and other general office equipment.

    + Project management and leadership skills, including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines and budgets, and deliver on commitments

    + Ability to understand, achieve, and lead in following Company’s objectives, policies, procedures, and practices.

    + Professional communication and collaboration skills, involving the ability to work cross-functionally, to understand requirements, present alternatives, and make recommendations.

    Preferences

    + Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.

    + Advanced degree in EE with an emphasis in power.
