A Surgical Physician Assistant i s a highly trained and skilled medical professional who works alongside surgeons and other members of the surgical team. Surgical PAs are a vital part of the healthcare team and play an important role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of surgical care. Duties: Assist surgeons during operative procedures, providing aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other intraoperative technical functions that help surgeons carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. Conduct pre-operative patient assessments and provide postoperative care and monitoring. Take patient medical histories and perform physical examinations. Coordinate patient care with other healthcare professionals. Administer medications and injections as prescribed. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, documenting all patient interactions, treatments, and procedures according to hospital policy, legal requirements, and Howard University Hospital medical staff bylaws. Work closely with other medical and surgical specialties to coordinate and optimize patient care. Educate patients and families on surgical procedures and postoperative care. Participate in surgical rounds, staff meetings and in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. Minimum Requirements Include: Previous experience in general surgery required. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Licensed to practice as a PA in Washington, DC. Bilingual or multilingual a plus. BLS Certification required.
