    Ocean Engineer

     

    Advanced Technology & Research Corporation (www.atrcorp.com) is seeking to fill the following full-time permanent position.     PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful applicant will join ATR's Engineering Services Division, working as an Ocean Engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center South Florida Ocean Measurement Facility, (SFOMF) located near Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  Applicant will be part of the ocean engineering group that works on maritime and subsea systems. Assist in the brainstorming and developing new initiatives in maritime applications through research and development (R&D) efforts, including crafting novel oceanographic sensors and analysis tools. Develop, implement, and test early prototype R&D maritime systems. Lead white paper development, technology surveys, and drafting of technical findings and recommendations for our sponsors.

     

    The applicant will participate and contribute to the team in developing project plans, test and analysis plans, and for writing and briefing research progress and results to upper management and sponsors.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    + Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean engineering

    + Master of Science or PhD in Ocean Engineering or Physical Oceanography is preferred

    + 3+ years of experience with design, development, deployment and test of maritime sensors and underwater systems, such as moored and towed systems, buoys, towed arrays, UUV and ROVs

    + Job experience with the Navy or other DoD laboratories is a plus

    SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

    + Knowledge of programming languages such as MATLAB, Mathcad, C++, C#, and Python

    + Working knowledge of scientific programming and algorithm development

    + Experience with oceanographic and/or underwater signatures data is a plus

    + Familiar with noise reduction and signal extraction algorithms

    + Familiar with acoustic propagation and scattering of underwater and structural applications

    + Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary group environment

    + Strong technical writing and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate

    + Some minimal travel required

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus.
