    JOB DESCRIPTION

    - Pay Rate Range: $35 - $85 per hour

     

    - 1 year contract with potential to be hired full time

     

    Teledyne FLIR is looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Technician / Machinist to join our engineering team to work in the Surveillance Systems Division in Orlando FL. This role combines hands-on machining expertise with precision mechanical assembly, supporting the development and fabrication of complex mechanical and opto-mechanical systems.

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

    + Operate and program CNC machines, including CNC mills and lathes, using CAM software integrated with SolidWorks.

    + Perform precision machining of components to tight tolerances using both manual and CNC equipment.

    + Assemble precision mechanical systems, including alignment and integration of opto-mechanical assemblies.

    + Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.

    + Collaborate with engineers and designers to optimize manufacturability and assembly processes.

    + Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety and quality standards.

    Job Qualifications:

    + Proven experience with CAM programming, preferably using SolidWorks CAM or similar platforms.

    + Proficiency in operating CNC lathes and other machine tools.

    + Strong background in precision mechanical assembly, including use of hand tools, torque drivers, and alignment fixtures.

    + Familiarity with opto-mechanical systems and cleanroom assembly practices is highly desirable.

    + Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.

    + Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

    + Experience in a prototype or R&D environment.

    + Knowledge of optical alignment techniques and handling of sensitive optical components.

    + Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems.

    + Associate degree or technical certification in Machining, Mechanical Technology, or a related field.

    + Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role.

     

    Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
