    About the Lab

     

    The laboratory of Dr. J. David Jentsch in the Department of Psychology is looking to recruit a Research Technician. Our group studies the behavioral and neural mechanisms that converge to affect risk for addictions. Much of our work involves the study of diverse mouse populations that have been created to allow for precise study of genetic, chromosomal or neural contributors to behavior. The successful candidate will facilitate and undertake this work through general management of the laboratory environment, conducting high-quality husbandry care of breeding colonies, managing genotyping and assignment of animals and collecting and analyzing data alone or in collaborative teams. The ideal candidate for this position will be capable of independent work, as well as working with teams of graduate and undergraduate students to accomplish our goals.     Job Duties:

    + Maintain a breeding colony of diverse mouse models, including managing lineages, creating pairings, weaning offspring, conducting genotyping and attending to the health and well-being of all subjects.

    + Maintain a safe and effective laboratory environment, including managing inventories (ordering), chemical waste and laboratory equipment.

    + Keep detailed records of laboratory functions.

    + Collect and analyze behavioral and neural data, under the supervision of the PI or another laboratory member.

    + Train and manage undergraduate students in research.

    + Occasional weekend and holiday work will be required.

    Job Requirements:

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology or a related area, before the start date.

    + Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent responsibilities and deadlines.

    + Self-directed, adaptable and capable of working independently and collaboratively.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred:

    + Experience working with rodent models in a research laboratory setting.

    + Knowledge of laboratory safety guidelines and protocols.

    Additional Information:

    Salary: $35,000-$40,000 annually
