These 24-bed cardiovascular telemetry units specialize in post-open heart, surgical, and ventricular assist device patients. The units are fast-paced and provide excellent opportunities in nursing growth and development with the ability to care for patients undergoing innovative procedures. **Patient population includes post heart surgery patients such as:**

+ Coronary artery bypass surgery

+ Minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery

+ Ventricular assist devices

+ Valve replacement or repair

+ Other procedures, such as maze procedure, endarterectomy, aneurysm repair

Other Common Cardiac-Related Admissions:

+ Angina/myocardial infraction

+ Congestive heart failure

+ Arrhythmias, such as supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia (VT)

+ Permanent pacemaker and defibrillator insertion and removal

Nursing on these units provide:

+ Patient education - addressing the unique discharge needs for this specific patient population

+ Specialized teams to provide optimal delivery of care

+ Opportunities for community involvement related to education and training

A caregiver in this PRN position works variable shifts, from 7:00am-7:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

+ Provide direct nursing care.

+ Implement and monitor patient care plans.

+ Monitor, record and communicate patients' conditions.

+ Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.

+ Assess and coordinate patients' discharge needs.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)

+ Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)

+ Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments

+ **External applicants:** two years of recent related nursing experience

+ **Internal applicants** with less than two years' experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period, could be considered with the Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval

+ Will consider military RN experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

+ Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

+ Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

+ Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

+ Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

+ Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

+ Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

+ Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
