Position Description
This full-time, Non Civil Service position is located with the Department of Law and provides advanced litigation and client advice support services for a team of attorneys. Performs related duties as required.

Typical Duties
+ Assists attorneys on litigation, special projects, and client advice.
+ Drafts and reviews pleadings, orders, and other legal documents.
+ Responds to emails and phone calls from clients, citizens, and attorneys.
+ Assists with preparations for court hearings.
+ Researches matters upon request.
+ Assists attorneys by taking notes, organizing files, and performing administrative tasks.
+ Files, serves, and delivers documents with courts, parties, and witnesses.
+ Establishes and maintains files and records electronically.
+ Manages databases.
+ Performs other law related support services as required.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Paralegal Certificate and two (2) years of experience in a legal field
LICENSE REQUIRED
Valid Driver's License
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of the fundamentals of civil law and legal procedures
+ Knowledge of the fundamentals of the Tennessee court structure and the legal system of the United States
+ Knowledge of legal writing and research techniques
+ Ability to multi-task and manage a volume of cases
+ Ability to communicate effectively
+ Ability to adapt in fast-paced environment
