    Description of Job

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    The Facilities department provides maintenance service to students, staff and the public in general. Maintains, repairs, remodels and improves the building, mechanical equipment, utility systems, landscaping, snow removal, parking lots, and performs maintenance, repairs and seasonal changeover of motorized equipment. Provide an environment conducive to the education of students.

    DUTIES:

    Building Remodel

     

    Structural Trades I performs assigned tasks under the supervision of Structural Trades II, following construction documents and plans to carry out physical labor. Responsibilities include assisting with the collection of labor and material data for purchase requests and helping gather quotes or proposals as directed. They support project execution by following instructions related to engineering requirements, code compliance, and third-party inspections.

     

    Work is carried out according to methods and schedules provided by Structural Trades II, including setting up safety and security barriers to protect students, staff, faculty, and visitors during active construction. Structural Trades I helps implement project plans and follows guidance to avoid conflicts with college operations.

     

    Remodeling duties are performed as instructed, using tools such as transits, plumb lines, tape measures, and laser levels. Tasks include moving and installing materials, framing, hanging drywall, assembling ceiling grid systems, installing doors and windows, laying floor tile and cove base, and mounting cupboards, shelving, and whiteboards. All work is completed in compliance with building codes, as directed by Structural Trades II.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned to support campus operations.

     

    Plumbing/HVAC Repair and Maintenance

     

    Supports HVAC maintenance and operational tasks under the direction of Pipe Trades II and performs assigned plumbing functions as needed. Assists with the servicing, rebuilding, and replacement of flush valves and faucets. Participates in the installation of plumbing components and systems. Carries out maintenance duties related to plumbing traps, flow lines, and both incoming and waste lines, and following instructions provided.

     

    Painting & Concrete

     

    Performs painting tasks across various campus areas—including classrooms, study spaces, restrooms, parking lots, curbs, offices, hallways, and mechanical rooms—using equipment such as sprayers, HVLP guns, rollers, and brushes. Prepares surfaces under the supervision of Structural Trades II by applying caulk, paint removers, solvents, grinders, rust removers, bead or sand blasters, wire brushes, and scrapers as directed. Applies a range of paint products to include enamels, acrylics, latex, textured coatings, epoxy, lacquer, polyurethane, and varnishes. Monitors paint and supply inventory and communicates needs to Structural Trades II. Follows all safety procedures, uses appropriate PPE, and ensures the safety of others by working during off-peak hours or securing the work area with barriers.

     

    Assists with concrete work such as framing and pouring pads for equipment and minor sidewalk repairs using trowels, jackhammers, floats, edgers, and strikes. Applies self-leveling concrete to prepare or improve surfaces for flooring and performs substrate compaction and preparation as needed.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned to support campus operations.

     

    Miscellaneous Repairing

     

    Performs general facilities support tasks including the installation of signage, replacement of carpet and ceiling tiles, furniture assembly and repair, relocation of office and classroom furnishings, and hauling of surplus items. Replaces batteries in clocks and door hardware as needed. Responds to facility-related emergencies—such as leaking pipes, broken fixtures, roof leaks, and clogged drains—under the direction of Structural Trades II.

     

    Assists with snow and ice removal using appropriate equipment and materials, including shovels, spreaders, scrapers, and ice melt.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned to support campus operations.

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

     

    Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. (Part-time experience will be pro-rated)

    Substitutions:

    Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program related to the position will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    OR

    Lived Experience Qualifications: Two (2) years working experience volunteering as a carpenter helper, painting, assisting someone working on plumbing or working on HVAC.

     

    + You may receive credit from the age of 16 and over.

    + You must give the dates and number of hours worked, as well as job duties.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

    Operating Equipment & Tools:Knowledge of equipment & tools to repair and work on HVAC, Drywall, Plumbing, Painting, Flooring, and Remodel Projects.

     

    Customer Service:Providing customer service while working on projects around staff and students.

     

    Building & Construction Skills:Knowledge of how to repair roof, repair damaged drywall, HVAC Repairs, Remodel including demolition, framing, hanging & finishing drywall, install flooring, Painting, Plumbing

     

    Public Safety:Keeping safety in mind while working on all projects.

     

    Communication:Able to communicate effectively with supervisor and staff.

     

    Maintenance:Basic knowledge of landscaping, equipment maintenance, Floor care, disinfecting surfaces, washing vehicles, and snow removal.

     

    Technology:Record time sheets, input work orders/data base, read and send emails.

     

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Must possess and maintain a current, valid State of Colorado Driver’s License to operate company vehicles. Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check in include a motor vehicle record (MVR) as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to the job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide Front Range Community College, Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges.

     

    NOTE: An essential function of this position requires exertion of up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects (i.e. lifting equipment, pushing grounds equipment, removing snow, etc.). It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions on labels, machinery and in manuals, etc. Also must be able to interpret written directives, policies, guidelines and memos.
