    Project Description:

    Xcel Energy is offering a paid internship with the Geospatial Project Team in Denver, CO or Minneapolis, MN. This role involves supporting data integrity projects, applying geospatial skills in the utility sector, and collaborating with stakeholders to improve gas and electric distribution mapping. Interns gain practical experience, firsthand training, and networking opportunities within the Geospatial organization.

     

    As an intern, you will contribute to real-world utility projects by performing tasks such as analyzing spatial data, updating digital maps, and collaborating with engineers and project managers. You will have access to industry-standard software tools, participate in workshops, and join team meetings where you can share ideas and learn from professionals. The position encourages creativity and critical thinking as you solve challenges related to mapping accuracy and data visualization. Additionally, Xcel Energy fosters a supportive environment that values diversity, inclusion, and continuous learning, helping interns build valuable relationships and technical expertise for future career opportunities in geospatial science and the energy industry.

    Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

    + _Enter new geographic features from base maps & aerial maps or realign existing_ _objects._

    + _Compare GIS data to_ _asbuilt_ _documentation,_ _identify_ _discrepancies and request verification of data._

    + _Identify_ _absence of specific map information and inform the engineering department._

    + _Develop and execute custom queries on_ _maps_ _and database information._

     

    This position is for a June 1st, 2026 start. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs.

    Minimum** **Requirements

    + Current student, Junior or Senior status (as of May 2026).

    + Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in GIS, geography, computer science, or related field.

    + Able to commute to the service center, plant, or corporate officein Denver, CO or Minneapolis, MN.

    + Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall(up to 20 hours a week).

    Preferred Qualifications

    + _3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher_

    + _Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework, including classes in_ _GIS, remote_ _sensing,_ _or computer science_ _and geography._

    + _Experience or Proficiency with data analytics_ _tools._

    The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.40 to $21.60 per hour

     

    This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
