    As our Senior Network Engineer you will play a crucial role, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Sarasota County’s network infrastructure (LAN & WAN), including hardware and software. Examples of job responsibilities include troubleshooting complex network issues, ensuring optimal network performance, implementing security measures, and mentoring junior team members. The ideal candidate is motivated to stay updated on emerging network technologies, as you would oversee the overall health and efficiency of the network.

     

    The pay starts at $29.68 per hour but, based on experience, could start as high as $40.08 per hour! To be successful in this role you will need current knowledge of infrastructure connectivity technologies, protocols, and methodologies.     About the Position

    In this role, you will develop and evaluate project cost estimates and resource requirements for new networking technologies, services, alternative vendors, equipment, and software choices. For more information, see below...

     

    + Make recommendations to management on the selection of vendor products and services or new network solutions.

    + Develop and implement plans to upgrade network infrastructure, improve efficiency, and support new customer requirements for network connectivity.

    + Consult and work with other partners Business Centers, Offices, and Elected Official IT organizations to assure compatibility and interoperability with LAN’s other client/server hardware, customer applications, email systems, and operating systems.

    + Completion of Work Orders pertaining to the administration and maintenance of network technologies including routers, switches, virtual private networks (VPN), and wireless networks (WLAN's) within established SLA guidelines.

    + Network add/move/change activity including cable installs, port activations, and equipment installations.

    + Mentor network team members on emerging technologies and perform coaching/training with team and end-users.

    + Maintain Network Documentation, TCP\IP Database, LAN Diagrams, WAN diagrams, and backup equipment configurations.

     

    About the Schedule

    Work Hours:

    + Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

    + Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    + E-Work/Hybrid Work: Currently this position is eligible to e-work up to 1 day per week! After you complete your first six (6) months, contingent on work requirements and other factors, you’ll be eligible for this fantastic benefit.

     

    This position is required to participate in an on-call rotation with the rest of the team. This includes availability to work within the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergency events (hurricanes, tornadoes, other weather or emergency events). This position has been assigned as e-role within the county which is to support the EOC before, during, and after an emergency event which will require the candidate to stay overnight (or to work nights) at this location to support emergency efforts. All county employees, regardless of their role, must be flexible during an emergency activation.

     

    About You

    To be considered for this role, you must have the following:

    + Minimum of a Four (4) year degree -AND- Two (2) years of related work experience.

    + -OR- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field -AND- Two years of related work experience.

    + -OR- Master’s degree -AND- One year of related work experience.

    + -OR- Progressively responsible professional or technical experience as described herein may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.

    + Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.

    The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities to:

    + Work in a highly motivated team environment.

    + Show demonstrated IT experience working with a broad range network and telecommunications hardware and software with centralized management in an enterprise environment.

    + Planning, architecture and network analysis in regards to optical, copper, and wireless networks. Those technologies include DWDM, CWDM, VPN, and Wi-Fi (RF) technologies.

    + Troubleshoot optical, copper and wireless as well as perform network risk assessment.

    + Experience or knowledge of ITIL best practices and project management.

    Bonus Qualifications:

    + Current knowledge of infrastructure connectivity technologies, protocols, and methodologies.

    + Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP or other related to networking

     

    Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

     

    CJIS Clearance: The successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background check(s) as a part of the hiring process.

     

    Physical Demands: Employees in this role must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs. Employees can use handling devices (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessive poundage of 50-plus pounds.

    Starting Pay Range: $29.68 - $40.08 /hr, based on experience.
