    Are you looking to make a positive impact in your community? Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) seeks a Business Development Specialist to help our Refugee & immigrant Services Department provide assistance to immigrant and refugee owned businesses in Des Moines. This position will also cover the following counties: Scott, Linn, Blackhawk, Woodbury and Buena Vista.

     

    What You'll Do

     

    The Business Development Specialist will conduct outreach to engage at least 40 new or external refugee and immigrant owned small business per year in order to provide support to help clients overcome or build through pandemic related challenges and access loans grants along with other financial assistance. In addition the Specialist will provide group or individual technical assistance and counseling to enrolled small business in the areas of finances, operations, business planning and other business related topics per the business owners needs and requirements. The role will support refugee and immigrant business owners in accessing business capital, market opportunities and other resources to meet their business goals and helps them to grow.

     

    Must be willing to travel at least twice per months to sites outside of Des Moines. Some overnights may be required.

     

    Requires some weekend and occasional evening availability (flex time) and some statewide travel.

     

    What You'll Need

     

    Required: Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or a related field or 2-3 years relevant experience. Ideal candidates will have experience in providing technical assistance and training to refugee or immigrant entrepreneurs. Must be able to and demonstrate culturally competent social skills and interactions.

     

    Ability to speak multiple languages in addition to English preferred but not required.
