    Responsibilities:

    GENERAL PURPOSE

    Coordinates work assignments for ophthalmic technicians at assigned location(s) for optimal clinic flow. Provides regular feedback on technician performance to leadership team. Leads training and skill monitoring at assigned location(s). Performs all of the duties of an ophthalmic technician, including medical record review, preparation for the visit, patient education, assistance with medical examinations, treatments, and procedures.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Maintains presence on the clinic floor to ensure optimal clinic flow.

    + Addresses and troubleshoots problems in clinic as they arise.

    + Fosters end of session feedback between providers, technicians, and schedulers.

    + Creates and updates workup responsibilities for each provider.

    + Leads huddles with team on a regular basis.

    + Works with other leads to provide clinic coverage as needed.

    + Ensures equipment is maintained according to manufacturer’s guidelines.

    + Maintains a clean, sterile environment.

    + Sterilizes and disinfects instruments and equipment in accordance with guidelines.

    + Leads technician training.

    + Monitors technician skills at assigned location(s).

    + Provides documentation for technician reviews.

    + Mentors' new employees and provides onboarding.

    + Performs ocular history, vital signs, visual acuity, neutralize glasses, automated refractions, pupillary exams, confrontational fields, ocular motility, and intraocular pressure.

    + Performs a full range of ophthalmic exams and testing as needed or otherwise assigned.

    + Ensures rooms are cleaned and stocked at all times.

    + Assigns activities to other staff.

    + Provides regular feedback to leadership team regarding staffing concerns, performance issues, training needs, and opportunities for organizational improvements.

    + Assists with organizing Technician activities to increase employee engagement.

    + Assesses and analyzes technician supply and demand in conjunction with departmental leadership.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year closely related clinical experience or training/coursework in optometry, ophthalmology or related field required

    + Or equivalent combination of education and experience

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    + Knowledge of ocular anatomy and physiology, basic tonometry, ophthalmic equipment maintenance and simple repairs. Understands ocular injuries and urgent care required

    + Possesses basic ocular pharmacology knowledge of drops and medications used for eye examinations, including the ability to identify the purpose of these commonly used medications, proper administration, dosage, durations, common side effects, and hospital policy about shelf life of these medications required

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

    + CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation or obtain CPR Certification within 30 days required and

    + COA - Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Certification by the registry of the Joint Commission of Allied Health in Personnel Ophthalmology or other nationally recognized professional certifying body upon hire required
