The role you'll contribute:
Population Health Services (PHSO) at AdventHealth is seeking an Actuarial Consultant to expand Actuarial Services housed in the Finance Department. The role reports to Manager, Actuarial Services, and enhances the support provided by Actuarial Services to PHSO and the wider Primary Health Division (PHD). The ideal candidate is a finance-oriented actuary or an actuarially oriented finance person who may or may not possess actuarial credentials. However, relevant experience at a health system, insurance company, consulting firm, or start-up in population health, along with strong problem solving and computational skills is essential. Additionally, working knowledge and understanding of major medical claims, insurance contracts, and the traditional actuarial functions, e.g., claims completion, seasonality analysis, risk scoring, and stop loss analysis is also essential. Ideal experience is in the traditional actuarial functions of valuation/reserving or pricing. Experience with traditional actuarial methodologies for IBNR, seasonality, etc. is desired. Knowledge of shared risk financial models, i.e., MSSP, ACO REACH, and commercial ACOs, is also desired but not essential. Experience with Medicare Advantage is also relevant but isnt a significant consideration and isnt essential. While the position involves some analytics-style work, most deliverables expected to be in the actuarial-finance area instead of the actuarial-analytics area. Additionally, high levels of professionalism including comfort with coordination in a multi-disciplinary and remote functioning team is essential. Additionally, the ability to structure deliverables in a logical, consistent, and transparent manner are highly desired for this position. AdventHealth is a major health system headquartered in central Florida and offers a competitive rewards package, including paid time off and benefits that start from day one. Additionally, the Finance team is remote-working but close-knit and regularly attends group events hosted by the PHSO in central Florida.
The value you will bring to the team:
The Actuarial Consultant is part of the PHSO Finance team that assists the PHD in the transition from traditional risk models to Value-Based Care models and other innovative solutions to the healthcare risk challenges of today. These challenges require a finance/actuarial person who is not only technically strong but also innovative, curious, and can adapt quickly to the changes in the industry.
As a member of the actuarial team, the Actuarial Consultant is responsible for assisting leadership in providing and enhancing strategic and technical services related to contractual outcomes analysis, projections, contract renewal, risk assessment, and underwriting.
The Actuarial Consultant
o Periodically monitors, assesses, and estimates the risk of new and existing contracts
o Supports the monthly financial close process for the PHSO, and other parts of the PHD
o Contributes to enhancing actuarial and financial models and may take primary responsibility for the development and implementation of such models
Additionally, the Actuarial Consultant builds strong relationships and communicates appropriately and effectively with leadership, stakeholders, customers, and peers
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
**Minimum qualifications** :
Bachelors or higher degree from an accredited institution in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or related field
Problem solving, analytical, and quantitative background and orientation
Self-starter with initiative, curiosity, skills, and patience to grapple with data and data analysis issues that may not be completely defined
Beginner to intermediate experience with health care claims and related data and analysis (at least 1-2 years experience)
Working knowledge and understanding of probability and statistics at the introductory college level
Beginner to intermediate skill level in one or more of the following: SQL, SAS/EG, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau or similar

Preferred Qualifications:
