Job Summary
Provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all users of the climbing wall. Climbing Specialists needs to display a strong work ethic, be dependable, motivated and have the ability to work independently. Possess good teaching and communication skills. Has the ability and skills to work with participants of all ages and abilities. Experience with belay systems or previous climbing gym experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
+ Open and close the climbing wall daily during posted hours.
+ Inspect and maintain equipment prior to and after use.
+ Provide a clean and organized climbing area.
+ Ensure all waivers are complete and filed.
+ Monitor use of wall, ensure that climber adhere to all policies, procedures and safety guidelines. Evaluate and monitor safe belaying abilities.
+ Respond to emergency situations.
+ Promotes safe climbing and bouldering techniques.
+ Instructs belay clinics, climbing clinics, and other climbing related clinics.
+ Creates, set and maintain routes.
+ Maintenance inspection and documentation of climbing equipment.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Current University of Utah Student.
+ Basic knowledge and experience with indoor and /or outdoor rock climbing techniques and equipment such as ATC /Grigri belay techniques, rope management, figure 8 follow through, and friction hitches.
+ Excellent people and communication skills.
+ CPR certification or the ability to complete via in house within one month
