    Job Summary

    The University of Michigan, Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) Emergency Management team serves the community by preparing for, protecting against, and responding to a broad range of emergencies that could impact our people, operations, and environment. Reporting to the Emergency Management Associate Director and ultimately, the Emergency Management Director, you will help support and coordinate a comprehensive all-hazards approach within the University of Michigan's 19 schools and colleges, divisions, business and service units, independent centers, institutes, and auxiliary operations, which include Athletics, Student Life, and Michigan Medicine. You will maintain internal and external strategic partnerships and engage with faculty, staff, the community, state, and federal partners to further enhance our protection, prevention, and preparedness efforts.

     

    You will be physically located at our Ann Arbor campus.

    The Division of Public Safety and Security (http://dpss.umich.edu/) (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint operations to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment. Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations.

    Responsibilities*

    You will assist and coordinate emergency planning and preparedness at the institutional level and provide subject matter expertise and guidance to university units as follows:

    + You will help with critical prevention methods, including risk assessment and analysis.

    + Develop preparedness and readiness measures, including creating and managing programs, plans, and procedures.

    + Help with response efforts, including coordination, liaising, and EOC activation operations.

    + Support recovery processes, including physical, fiscal, and operational areas of focus.

    + Coordinate mitigation plans, including hazard vulnerability analysis and resource planning.

    + Facilitate program coordination across the enterprise, maintaining a uniform, integrated approach.

    + Be a liaison with all our partners and committees.

    + Develop information, presentations, and materials that brief and inform senior leadership.

    + Develop and facilitate training and exercise programming for the university community.

    + In the event of an emergency, you will be available for support, including activation of the university Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

    + Other responsibilities as assigned.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelors degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Administration, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a similarly related field.

    + Demonstrated experience collaborating with a diverse population of partners within academic, research, medical, and business settings.

    + Demonstrated experience developing and meeting project plans and daily work plans, including analyzing a variety of issues and translating them into plans and reports.

    + Recognized history of implementing solutions to complex problems through technology, partnerships, and applying resources.

    + Experience in presenting ideas and recommendations to peers and management.

    + One or more years of project management experience, including managing conflicting priorities and deadlines, and maintaining confidentiality.

    + Proficient in Google and MS platforms.

    + Completion of ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.

    + Completion of ICS 300 and 400 within one year of employment.

    + Flexibility to work non-business hours.

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.     Given reporting requirements during emergencies, critical incidents, or high-profile events, this position is classified as onsite. However, we do allow for some remote work as conditions allow.

     

    Additional Information

     

    All members of the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to reportClery reportable offenses (https://www.clerycenter.org/) that come to your attention. DPSS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
