    What You'll Do

     

    Principal Asset Management is looking for a Target Date Asset Management Intern to join us for Summer 2026! In this role, you will be working with the Principal Strategic Asset Allocation team who is primarily responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring multi-asset fund-of-fund products.

    What You'll Do

    + Monitor, research, and forecast economic trends and current events to assist in making Asset Allocation decisions.

    + Assist in preparation of commentary, analytics, and reporting on portfolio performance

    + Monitor portfolio exposures to ensure Asset Allocation viewpoints are correctly reflected within investment products

    + Analyze internal and external funds via industry tools such as FactSet and Morningstar

    + Work closely with existing analysts to optimize existing processes.

    + Learn the current landscape of Target Date and other multi-asset products

    Who You Are

    + You are working towards an undergraduate degree in economics, finance, accounting, engineering, business analytics, math, statistics, sciences (with investment coursework), or a related major

    + By summer of 2026, you will have had courses or experience in finance, economics, investment management, statistics, accounting

    + You have exposure to investments through involvement in student organizations or work experiences

    + Advanced Excel including ability to proficiently utilize reference formulas, solver, cross workbook linking, and other complex formulas

    + Availability to work fulltime, onsite in Des Moines, Iowa for the duration of Summer 2026

    Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

    + Exposure to FactSet and/or Morningstar

    + Prior investment experience through work experience or student organizations

    + Demonstrated interest in financial markets

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills

    + Leadership positions within student, work or community organizations

    + Strong work ethic

     

    Salary Range Information

     

    Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

     

    Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

     

    $29 - $29 / hour

     

    Time Off Program

     

    Paid company holidays and any time off required in your state.

    You must be available to work onsite at our Global Headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa.

     

    Work Environments

     

    This role offers the ability for in-office, or four days in-office and one day remote. You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors.

     

    Internship Stipend

     

    You will receive a lump sum stipend of $3,000. This amount is intended to support incidental expenses you may incur as part of your internship. The Company will provide a tax gross-up on this stipend as a financial benefit, but is not intended to compensate for all tax liabilities.
