Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description
As a Microbiological Lab Analyst, you will be responsible for receiving and documenting samples, performing microbiological testing and analysis, managing data, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
+ Receive, log, and label incoming food, beverage, and environmental samples in compliance with chain-of-custody procedures.
+ Verify sample integrity and storage conditions upon arrival.
+ Perform qualitative and quantitative testing for pathogens and indicator organisms using qPCR or ELFA technologies.
+ Assist in conducting shelf-life studies, challenge studies, and environmental monitoring analyses.
+ Prepare, dilute, and plate samples using standard ISO, BAM, USDA-FSIS, and FDA methods.
+ Record all necessary lab data on work orders and review data for accuracy before releasing client reports.
+ Communicate findings to staff and assist with client inquiries when required.
+ Follow all laboratory safety protocols, including PPE use and biosafety level requirements.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-free workspace.
+ Adhere to ISO quality management standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
+ Operate general laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance and cleaning.
+ Troubleshoot equipment issues and notify management when necessary.
+ Assist with proficiency testing and participate in internal training programs.
+ Support special projects, including new product testing.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in laboratory skills including pipetting and microbiology.
+ Knowledge of PCR, sterile processing, titration, and aseptic techniques.
+ Ability to adapt to changing workflow demands.
+ Strong data entry skills with an emphasis on accuracy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Basic microbiology testing on food.
+ Experience in titrations and aseptic techniques.
+ Ability to adapt to workflow changes.
+ Years of experience with a degree: 1 or 2; without a degree: 4 or 5.
Work Environment
You will work in a small microbiology testing lab focused on running samples to generate data for clients. The environment is laid-back, with workflow fluctuations based on client demands. The position involves a rotating shift schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Tuesday through Saturday, with an early finish around 1:30 pm on Saturdays.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmington, Connecticut.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
