    About Miami Correctional Facility :

    As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Miami Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Miami Correctional Facility is a maximum security Correctional facility for adult males. The Miami Correctional Facility is located in Bunker Hill. Miami Correctional Facility is on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. Miami Correctional Facility offers several opportunities for work and educational programs, including a program where incarcerated individuals translate reading materials to Braille and a sewing shop that provides items for partner organizations.

    Role Overview:

    Incumbent coordinates all case management matters and facilitates incarcerated individuals' access to available programs and services.

    Salary Statement:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential functions of this role are as follows:

    + Provide immediate supervision to your Correctional Caseworker team for adherence to policy and procedure through the use of routine CQI assessments.

    + Supervise, train, coach, and review the performance of correctional caseworkers assigned to the unit team, assess individual strengths and weaknesses, utilize regular evaluations and frequent informal reviews of staff performance in accordance with the standards, guidelines and policies of the Department and State Personnel Department.

    + Assess each assigned offender's risks and needs utilizing the Individual Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS).

    + Coordinate with all appropriate facility staff to address re-entry and release issues.

    + Provide group and individual programming for re-entry and release as required.

    + Coordinate with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for offenders.

    + Conduct unit orientation for newly received offenders.

    + Maintain high security standards in the unit and facility.

    This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

    + ​Possession of a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).

    + At least two (2) years of work experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field. Substitutions: Each one (1) year of related education may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

    + Within 90 days of hire, you must obtain the Indiana Risk Assessment System Certification through the Indiana Office of Court Services.

    + Must test negative on all drug screenings.

    + Upon hire, the ability to successfully complete all mandatory training including the DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.

    + Ability to write records of offenders.

    + Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage the work of the staff.

    + Ability to establish a working relationship with staff and offenders.

    + Knowledge and ability to utilize conflict resolution techniques.

    + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.

     

    This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
