The MDOT MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MDOT MTA team.

     

    This recruitment is being used to create an eligibility list that will be used to fill vacancies in this specific job classification as they occur.

     

    The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for Superintendent Metro Transportation. The Superintendent is responsible for managing the delivery of scheduled transportation services for the assigned Division. The Superintendent may assist with conducting and coordinating investigations, disciplinary hearings, and base level grievance hearings for all ATU Local 1300 employees at the Division to ensure timely and appropriate resolution of contractual disputes and performance problems. The Superintendent will track and monitor Performance Evaluations for Local 1300 and Field Supervisors, as well as perform various daily performance observations, track certification and licensing of assigned staff for operation of MTA vehicles.

     

    The Superintendent will directly supervise Field Supervisors and indirectly supervise Local 1300 Metro Train Operators and Station Attendants. Work is normally performed in an office setting or may require travel throughout various locations within the mode's service area. The Superintendent will perform other duties as assigned.

     

    This position is located in Baltimore City, Maryland.

    Qualifications

    Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

     

    Experience: Six (6) years of experience in the operation of a mass transit system and/or related operations that required the resolution of operational problems related to scheduled service, equipment failure, inclement weather or other service disruptions. Two (2) years of the required experience must have involved supervising lower operations personnel in a mass transit operation.

    SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION:

    1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

    2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.

    3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility.

     

    Employees may be required to work shifts, evenings, and weekends.

     

    Employees in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employees" status.

     

    Employees in this classification are subject to pre-employment drug testing and substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49- Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules, and Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

     

    Licenses & Certifications

     

    Employees in this classification are assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

     

    Employees in this classification who are assigned to Field Operations (Bus Transportation) will be assigned duties that require a valid State of Maryland Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with a Passenger (P) endorsement.
