This is a grant-funded TEMPORARY position scheduled to end on or before June 30, 2026
This position is open to current internal employees only
The Mental Health Specialist provides short-term mental health support, crisis intervention and referral services to Atlantic Cape students. This position plays a key role in ensuring the emotional well-being of students through direct service, campus outreach and coordination with basic needs resources.
Examples of Duties
+ Provide intake and triage services for students in emotional or psychological crisis, including risk assessments and safety planning.
+ Collaborates with campus and community partners to address the needs of students.
+ Deliver short-term, evidence-based counseling services, individually or ingroup settings, to support student mental health and academic success.
+ Assist students with basic needs navigation, including connection to food, housing, transportation and financial support resources.
+ Make appropriate referrals to community mental health providers, medical professionals and basic needs resources when long-term or specialized care is needed.
+ Submit monthly and annual reports.
+ Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and support at-risk students.
+ ServeasamemberoftheCARETeam,contributingtoholisticcasemanagement.
+ Facilitate educational workshops and outreach initiatives on topics such as stress management, self-care, resilience, and mental health awareness.
+ Maintain confidential case management documentation and comply with federal, state and institutional policies, including FERPA.
+ Participate in professional development.
+ Serves on college committees as needed
+ Performs related duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Education:
+ Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field
+ Social Work Licensure preferred
Experiences:
+ Experience working with culturally-diverse and high-risk populations
+ Experience working in higher education preferred
Competencies and Skills:
+ Strong communication skills and computer literacy
+ Experience with student information software(s) preferred
+ Must maintain ethical guidelines, professional standards of care in mental health practice and confidentiality.

Terms of Employment:
This position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.
