III. *Research Activities - 90% *
• Impact the quality and advancement of cancer research efforts within the Genitourinary Medical Oncology -Research Department and MD Anderson Cancer Center with a primary focus on translating lab-based studies into clinical applications.
• Design, direct and perform various in vitro , in vivo and ex vivo experiments to develop biomarker-guided, combinatorial treatment strategies aim at overcoming tumor resistance to targeted and immuno-oncology (IO) agents.
• Elucidate clinically-relevant molecular mechanisms in therapeutic resistance and tumor-immune interactions by utilizing mouse models and patient-derived organoid culture systems, as well as analyzing human tumor biospecimens at the single-cell level.
• Identify therapeutic targets to augment antitumor immunity by utilizing animal models and clinical patient research samples in a research laboratory.
• Develop assays to identify tumor neoantigens which could be utilized as predictive biomarkers for therapy-stimulated immune response and cancer vaccine development.
• All conducted projects requirements: review literature, experimental design, alternative approaches, organization, time-line, coordination, data interpretation, future directions and monthly progress report to immediate supervisor.
• Participate in laboratory meetings to present research findings to colleagues. Attend to academic conferences or meetings for oral or visual production of posters.
• Write manuscripts, research proposals and apply for grant funding, and collaborate with laboratory members to reinforce expertise and advance research objectives including the publication of articles and presentations at scientific meetings.
• The above activities require a strong command of the English language, including spelling, writing, and the ability to clearly and accurately communicate verbally in English both face-to-face and over the phone.
IV. *Education Activities - 5% *
• Guide, teach, supervise, and assist trainees, collaborators, and laboratory members to accomplish research or other laboratory duties as required.
• Exercise considerable initiative in planning and executing the details of experiments and in evaluating and interpreting the results. Responsible for the major participation and involvement of other laboratory members and collaborators in the development of laboratory techniques and research projects. Provide expertise, knowledge, or techniques to troubleshoot problems.
This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
