_The Opportunity_
The principal purpose of this position is to ensure food safety and sanitation compliance across Family Dollar’s distribution center operations. This role will collaborate with DC operations, facilities, maintenance, and third-party vendors to develop and implement food safety and sanitation standards. The role also serves as a key leader in driving a food-safe culture, overseeing program execution, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the logistics network.
_Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:_
+ Develop, implement, and oversee food safety and sanitation policies and procedures tailored to distribution center environments.
+ Partner with DC operations and facility teams to ensure proper execution of sanitation programs and food safety protocols.
+ Conduct audits and inspections across all distribution centers to assess compliance with company SOPs and regulatory standards (FDA, USDA, OSHA, etc.).
+ Lead and support corrective actions and preventative measures (CAPAs) to address food safety or sanitation risks.
+ Deliver on-site and virtual training on food safety, sanitation practices, and regulatory compliance to DC associates and leadership.
+ Monitor sanitation contractor performance and ensure third-party vendors meet agreed food safety and quality standards.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert for distribution center food safety and sanitation practices, ensuring internal stakeholders are informed of performance metrics, risk areas, and mitigation strategies.
+ Act as liaison with regulatory agencies and third-party auditors during inspections and audits at distribution centers.
+ Provide hands-on support and coaching during site visits to promote a culture of safety, compliance, and accountability.
_Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:_
+ Bachelor’s Degree in food science, microbiology, public health, engineering, or related fields.
+ 3–5 years of relevant experience in food safety, sanitation, or quality assurance, preferably within a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment.
+ Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry best practices for sanitation and food safety in supply chain operations.
+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, solve problems creatively, and implement sustainable solutions.
+ High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
+ Willingness and ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.
+ Flexible schedule to support business needs including nights or weekends as necessary.
_Preferred Qualifications:_
+ Experience managing sanitation and food safety programs in a distribution or logistics setting.
+ Industry certifications such as HACCP, PCQI, SQF Practitioner, or equivalent.
