Job Summary
Located in Brunswick, Maine, Bowdoin College boasts a student population of almost 2000. We make everything from scratch and are consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop, and organic garden that all supply food to our two dining halls and three retail locations.
Bowdoin is seeking a Dining Service Supervisor to join our team at Thorne Dining Hall. The Dining Services Supervisor supports front-of-house dining operations and catering functions to ensure smooth, efficient, and customer-focused service. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Collaborating with the Staffing Coordinator and Culinary Manager to ensure adequate shift coverage and supervising staff during service
+ Providing coverage during mealtimes as needed to support efficient operations and a positive guest experience
+ Ensuring guest areas are clean, stocked, and organized before service
+ Monitoring room reservations using the CMS report system
+ Managing and restocking special diet areas and specialty refrigerators, ensuring freshness and accurate labeling
+ Supporting catering functions, including event setup, updating function sheets, and assisting with billing documentation
+ Facilitating onboarding and training for new student and casual employees
+ Preparing and distributing daily meal reports, including meal counts, menu highlights, staffing notes, and equipment usage
+ Inspecting dining facilities regularly and submitting maintenance requests through the work order system
+ Overseeing weekly sanitation checks and conducting monthly inspections of AEDs and kitchen hoods.
Compensation:
+ The pay rate for this position is $26.35 per hour, and this role is eligible for overtime and shift/weekend differential
+ Shift Differentials: 10% for 2nd shift, 15% for 3rd shift, plus an additional $1.00/hour for weekend hours
+ New employees in Dining will receive a $500 sign-on bonus (paid after 90 days if eligibility requirements are met)

Education/Skills Requirements
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or some college course work in Management or Culinary Artspreferred
+ A valid driver’s license and the ability to comply with the College’s current Motor Vehicle Policy
+ Current ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment)
+ Current Maine Liquor Handler’s certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment)
+ Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform basic mathematical computations
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
+ Ability to work cooperatively and independently within a fast-paced environment
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
+ Ability to learn new software and systems
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
+ At least 1 year of related food service or retail sales experience
+ At least 2 years of supervisory experience

Standard Work Days and Hours
+ This is a full-time, year-round position, working 40 hours per week for 52 weeks per year (1.0 FTE ). The role includes occasional overtime, weekends, holidays, and weather emergencies, as well as coverage during major college events such as Parents Weekend, Commencement, and Reunions.
+ The regular work schedule for this position is as follows:
+ Sunday: Off
+ Monday: Off
+ Tuesday: 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm
+ Wednesday: 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm
+ Thursday: 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
+ Friday: 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
+ Saturday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
