Description of Work Unit
The Office of the Registrar provides leadership and service in student enrollment and academic record management that supports recruitment, retention and graduation goals of Colorado State University. Position Summary
The Office of the Registrar (RO) at CSU is looking for a talented data professional with strong analytical, customer service and problem-solving skills. This position is a great fit for a team member who wants to continuously learn, enjoys staying busy, is comfortable prioritizing and addressing workload demands, and flexibly moves from one project to another.
This position will participate in establishing and maintaining student information system ( SIS ) security by creating user and group profiles, fine grain access control rules, security classes, data masking rules, user access reports and procedures, and policies on database tables. This will include the SIS and other supporting systems such as document management, communication management, and workflow assignments. Troubleshooting support regarding access and permissions to the systems will also be provided.
This position will be involved in annual audits of users by departments, requests of access, and other smaller audits. This includes maintenance and audit of other systems to ensure that unnecessary accounts or processes have terminated properly.
The position is a member of a small team responsible for supporting ad hoc report requests involving the student education record. The position will utilize a variety of report writing and analytic tools to support business practices and meet reporting requirements. Primarily through the use of SQL and Microsoft Power BI, this position serves as one of the main reporting resources of student information used by Registrar staff for analysis, strategic decisions, data integrity and efficiency improvements.
This position will collaborate with numerous campus partners to ensure accurate and timely preparation of reports to both internal partners and external agencies. The staff member will work closely with colleagues from Division of IT and academic partners on campus. Reports will include ad-hoc special requests not available via other means.
Required Job Qualifications
All required job qualifications must be referenced in application materials to be considered for this position. The following items are required:
+ A bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer information systems, computer science or related field that emphasizes analysis and critical thinking skills from an accredited institution of higher education OR a bachelor’s degree in any field plus two years of progressively responsible direct information systems related experience.
+ Minimum of two years working in a technical/systems role for an enterprise level system.
+ Attention to detail as demonstrated in application materials.
+ Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated in application materials.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Preferred qualifications are not required to be considered for this position but are highly desired. Preferred qualifications include:
+ A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or computer information systems.
+ Two or more years of experience writing SQL scripts (Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server).
+ Strong interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated by respectful and effective interactions with various constituencies including but not limited to students, faculty, staff, and vendors at all levels.
+ Experience working at an institution of higher education and an understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ).
+ Experience creating and maintaining user accounts and security profiles in a Relational Database Management System such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or Active Directory.
+ Experience working on collaborative projects and building relationships with both internal and external constituents.
+ Personal initiative and ability to independently pursue solutions as needs are identified.
+ Experience training and/or presenting to both internal and external groups.

The Student Information System ( SIS ) contains FERPA protected student education records that include academic, financial and personal information for all students associated with CSU . The security set-up comprises complex user profiles and access rules to ensure that staff from many departments across campus can only access the data required to perform their job duties. This position will participate in establishing and maintaining SIS security by creating user and group profiles, fine grain access control rules, security classes, data masking rules, user access reports and procedures, and policies on Oracle database tables.
+ Participate in account setup; assign appropriate security classes and profiles to users; lock and revoke access; investigate access issues related to Banner, Banner Document Management, Banner Communication Management, and other systems.
+ Use and support a variety of computer software systems used by both the Office of the Registrar as well as the campus community; examples include Banner Student, Banner Document Management ( BDM ), Banner Communication Management ( BCM ), etc.
+ Assist with information and document input into the SIS when needed.
+ Track and ensure required FERPA training is completed by requestors for access to the SIS .

Duty/Responsibility
+ Serve as a critical resource for testing upgrades, releases and patches in multiple instances of Banner prior to placing into the production environment. This will include testing Banner, Banner Document Management, Banner Communication Management, Workflow, system integrations and other components in the SIS ecosystem.
+ Research, investigate and troubleshoot system production issues related to any system supported in the SIS environment.
+ Participate with the Registrar Team to ensure ongoing student education record processes are operational each semester to meet student registration requirements.
+ Provide training to Registrar staff and external constituents on data reporting tools and the data structures themselves.

+ Work with supervisor and RO leadership for guidance on information strategy, vision and priorities.
+ Assist in evaluating data integrity, data quality, use and functions. Identify data quality issues for review and participate in resolutions for data quality improvement.
+ Serve as a liaison between technical team and the stakeholders and communicate complex data issues.
+ Develop and write reports using PL/ SQL Developer to research questions and assist in identifying and resolving complex data problems. Reports may be on a one-time ad-hoc basis or may be incorporated into web pages or scheduled processes.
+ Collaborate with campus colleagues and external agency representatives to interpret policies and regulations in the accurate production of reports from a variety of data sources.
+ Act as a resource to support campus users at all levels with student data report needs.
+ Support and implement business requirements, analyze data and processes, and ensure reporting capabilities perform as expected.
+ Assist Office of the Registrar staff with queries from the data warehouse and the SIS tables and views.
+ Provide extracts of student data to on and off campus users.
+ Analyze report requirements and specifications.
+ Comply with standards for University data governance.
+ Work directly with RO leadership team to ensure effective development and use of reports and reporting tools.

+ Keep up to date on general activities in the Office of the Registrar to ensure SIS security and access management functions coordinate with and meet the needs of department/university functions and priorities.
+ Participate in meetings, read and respond to emails and be responsive to inquiries from institutions within the CSU System.
+ Participate in trainings and meetings as requested. Perform other duties as assigned.
+ Contribute to workload that supports overall enrollment goals (e.g., proofread General Catalog, support veterans’ education benefits processing, serve as a reader for the CSU Scholarship Application, etc.).
