    Job Description

    The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Operational Excellence & Outreach plays a key leadership role within the Division of External Operations, serving as a strategic partner to the Vice President and a critical leader in the university’s commitment to student access, operational efficiency, persistence, and retention. Based in Fort Worth, the AVP provides direct operational oversight of Tarleton State’s on-site locations in Fort Worth, Waco, and Bryan, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, delivering high-impact enrollment and outreach strategies, and leading cross-functional teams to support student success.

     

    The AVP is responsible for driving continuous improvement across outreach operations, developing systems and processes that enhance service delivery, and fostering collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, including community colleges across Texas. This position also serves as a primary liaison to the Division of Enrollment Management to align outreach initiatives with institutional recruitment, enrollment, and overall matriculation priorities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Operational Leadership & Multi-Site Management

    + Provide executive oversight and leadership for the daily operations of Tarleton State outreach locations in Fort Worth, Waco, and Bryan, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and excellence in service delivery.

    + Supervise and support campus directors at each site, setting performance expectations, developing leadership capacity, and aligning operational priorities with university goals.

    + Evaluate and implement organizational and process improvements to optimize the student experience, resource utilization, and campus effectiveness, all in coordination and collaboration with varying divisions institution-wide.

    + Conduct operational assessments and lead data-informed strategies that advance operational accountability.

    Strategic Enrollment & Outreach Initiatives

    + Lead the development and execution of outreach strategies focused on enrollment growth in collaboration with the Division of Enrollment Management.

    + Cultivate strategic partnerships with community colleges across the state to enhance transfer pathways and strengthen dual admission and related agreements.

    + Serve as the Division of External Operations data liaison to ensure operations and outreach strategies are data informed and intentional in scope.

    Executive Leadership & Cross-Divisional Collaboration

    + Serve as a senior advisor to the Vice President of External Operations, contributing to executive-level planning and strategic decision-making impacting the division and its units.

    + Represent the Division and the University on high impact committees and groups such as the President’s Advisory Council, as a Tarleton State Forward Strategic Plan Objective Lead, Clery Act Compliance Committee, and the Inclement Weather Council.

    + Coordinate cross-divisional initiatives that support student-centered outcomes and institutional mission fulfillment.

    Planning, Assessment & Fiscal Management

    + Lead and contribute to the division’s strategic planning processes, goal setting, and implementation tracking.

    + Oversee budget planning and fiscal accountability for assigned areas in coordination with the Vice President.

    + Develop comprehensive reports, proposals, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

    + Monitor and assess the impact of outreach and enrollment initiatives, using data and metrics to guide strategic recommendations and resource allocation.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education & Experience

    + Master’s degree required in higher education administration, organizational leadership, public administration, or a related field; doctoral degree preferred.

    + Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, with demonstrated expertise in operational management, enrollment strategy, and team leadership across multiple locations and/or departments.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Proven ability to lead and inspire diverse teams, manage complex operations, and cultivate a culture of excellence and accountability.

    + Demonstrated success in building and sustaining collaborative partnerships with internal stakeholders and external entities, including community colleges.

    + Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and influence a variety of audiences.

    + Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with experience using data to inform decision-making and measure impact.

    + Experience in budget development, resource planning, and project management at the departmental or divisional level.

    Salary: Commensurate with experience

    The target base annual salary is commensurate and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
