Job Description :
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Assists physicians and extenders in providing proper medical and clerical support for the various orthopedic practice locations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ After appropriate training and documented competency, performs various related procedures including but not limited to wound care, dressings, EKGs, removal of sutures/staples, application/removal of orthopedic casts/splints, phlebotomy and assisting with ultrasound procedures. 15%
+ Assists in the coordination of patient care under the supervision of the assigned health care provider. 10%
+ Prepares and rooms patients within the orthopedic clinical setting and according to the scope of practice. Orders radiographs according to the physician protocols. 10%
+ Following standard workflows, accurately documents all pertinent details in the electronic health record (EHR). Reviews and updates the allergy and medication list, social, medical, surgical history and pain screening. 10%
+ With documented competency, functions as a scribe to the physician when needed to maintain clinic work flow. 5%
+ Perform pre-visit chart management tasks by obtaining diagnostic reports and reviewing charts for completion. Electronically scans pertinent outside records to providers and staff as necessary. 10%
+ According to provider instruction, educates patients on proper wound and pin care, cast care and postoperative care. 10%
+ Prepares exam room for patient visit. Ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies. Ensures all patient treatment areas are at all times stocked with the appropriate supplies using established inventory standards. 10%
+ Ortho techs who are Medical Assistants with current Medical Assistant Certification may administer medication with documented training and competency in accordance with policy and scope of practice. Ortho Techs who are Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) cannot administer medications in the clinical setting. 5%
+ Under the supervision and direction of a Provider, and with appropriate training and competency, performs activities of the concussion clinic by accurately recording intakes, screenings, and testing. 5%
+ Completes case requests and orders necessary testing according to protocols. 5%
+ Serves as a preceptor to employees new to the position of orthopedic technician I. Provides meaningful feedback and orientation progress for new employees to both the manager and employee. 5%
+ Requires travel to various satellite locations to support assigned physician(s).
+ Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
+ Proof of graduation from an AHN approved Medical Assistant School within five years of hire OR graduate from an accredited athletic training education program OR relevant experience as determined by the company in lieu of education.
+ Valid PA driver's license
+ Medical Assistant Certification or Athletic Trainer Licensure within 120 days of hire. Newly hired medical assistants must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire.
+ American Heart Association BCLS certification is required.
+ 2 years outpatient clinical experience
+ CPR – American Heart Association
+ Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
+ Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
+ Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
Preferred
+ 3-5 years’ experience as an Ortho Technician, Medical Assistant, or Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC)
+ Experience with cast application, adjustment and removal, suture/staple removal and dressing changes
