This position leads others and provides for services in the enforcement, through inspection, of the provisions contained in the State Building Code for public buildings, state licensed facilities, and Places of Public Accommodation that are to be constructed in areas of the state where the building code will not be administered by a local building official and where delegation has not been granted to the local building official.
This position will cover a region in the northern one-third of the State; overall the region would consist of approximately one-half of the counties from a line of Clay, Becker, Cass and Carlton Counties north to the border. The specific assigned region will be based upon home office location of the successful applicant and needs of the agency.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must be certified as a Building Official by the State of Minnesota.
• Must have at least four (4) years of experience applying the principles, practices and methods of building construction and building codes as demonstrated in building code administration; review and approval or disapproval of building plans; and conducting building inspections to determine compliance with Minnesota building codes.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, government, industry, and the general public.
• Written and verbal communications skills.
• Conflict resolution skills, and ability to handle difficult or confrontational situations that are encountered in work assignments.
• Ability to travel in-state and out-state, as necessary.
• Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience as a designated municipal building official.
• Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).
Additional Requirements
