    Job Summary

    Salary to commensurate with qualifications

     

    The Sheriff’s Office provides public safety at all times and therefore every position is deemed essential. All positions are in-person and not eligible for remote work. Every position is also subject to recall based on the needs of the Office to keep the community safe.

    This position has an anticipated work schedule of:

    Day Shift: Sunday– Thursday or Tuesday– Saturday, 6:30am– 2:30pm subject to change.

     

    Swing Shift: Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday 1:50pm – 9:50pm subject to change.

    Maintains inmate fund accounts, commissary, and medical fee collections for the Sheriff's Office detentions facilities. Collects and distributes monies received for bonds, fines, and cost monies to other county and municipal courts.

     

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities

     

    + Provides service and information to both internal and external customers (citizens, inmates, visitors, court personnel, other law enforcement agencies) of the Intake and Release Section of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office either in person, by telephone, or correspondence regarding the status of inmates, their bonds, funds, and Intake and Release operations.

    + Primarily answers telephone, assists the main lobby transaction window, collects funds, and answers general information questions. Provides bonding information.

    + Process deposits into inmate fund accounts; accepts cash, money orders, and cashier’s check for other agencies, court remands, mail deposits, bonds, surety bonds, fines, and costs.

    + Process bond paperwork and monies for cash/surety bonds posted by citizens and bondsmen then walking the bonding paperwork to different areas of the Intake section for further processing.

    + Maintains individual computerized and hard copy accounts for each inmate. Deducts funds at the request of inmates for mailing, commissary purchases, medical services, release to third parties, etc. Files receipts.

    + Responds to inmate kites concerning their fund accounts. Assists in obtaining endorsement by inmates money orders, cashier, other agency or facility checks.

    + Processes and mails inmate release checks, bond, fine, and cost monies to other county and municipal courts. Counts, verifies, logs and delivers monies for bonds, fines, and costs to the courts. Responds to inquiries concerning bonding information and inmate accounts.

    + Receives, searches and enters inmate authorized property for drop off and issues receipt. Contact property, collect and copies valid ID for inmate property releases ready for pickup.

    + Maintains up to date list of authorized bondsmen and On the Board report.

    + Process incarceration letters, bond revocations and booking photos to bondsmen.

    + Responsible for making sure kiosks are in working order, troubleshooting, notify help desk and refilling paper rolls as needed.

    + Assist with turn-ins for incoming warrants and stay of executions for sentences.

    + Assist occasionally with balancing procedures.

    + Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Must be honest, truthful, and trustworthy and possess a high degree of personal integrity.

    + Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to write clearly, concisely, and persuasively. Ability to write and maintain accurate records and reports to meet management objectives.

    + Ability to analyze data and statistics, prepare statistical reports, and deliver information in an accurate and comprehensible manner.

    + Must have the ability to provide accurate information and possess a high level of attention to detail.

    + Ability to work effectively with co-workers, other County personnel, inmates, other agencies, and the public.

    + Must possess excellent organization skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.

    + Ability to perform under pressure and when confronted with persons acting under stress.

    + Ability to efficiently plan, schedule, and organize.

    + Strong organizational skills and ability to do detailed work with significant accuracy.

    + Ability to use office equipment, including telephone, computer, calculator, and copier.

    + Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

     

    Required Education and Experience

     

    + High school diploma or equivalent education.

    + Minimum one year of accounting experience.

    + Any equivalent combination of related education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

     

    Licenses/Certificates

     

    + Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.

    Pre-Employment Requirements

    + Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, Tuberculosis testing, and drug screen.

     

    Work Conditions

     

    Duties are performed in a highly stressful, closed detention facility with minimal exposure to windows. Potential exposure to violent inmates, use of foul and disrespectful language, offensive smells, excessive noise, body fluid and airborne pathogens. Must be able to work shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Sheriff’s Office employees must complete tuberculosis testing as applicable to the specific position prior to job assignment and periodic testing thereafter.
