Job Summary

The Activity Assistant position reports directly to the Clinical Director and is responsible for implementing general recreation activities with direction/assistance from the Activity therapist. Assists with Activity Therapy groups and activities both on and off the acute unit.

+ Facilitates activity groups and provides individual programming as indicated. Ability to modify activities according to patient participation or disability.

+ Collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team and activity therapist to implement identified treatment goals.

+ Encourages patient participation in groups and provides emotional support and encouragement measures when needed.

+ Documents activity interventions and outcomes, in the patient’s medical record congruent with departmental policies.

+ Maintains current knowledge of trends related to care coordination issues through attendance and active participation in continuing education.

+ Manages safety and orderliness of activity group areas and other patient and visitor areas and maintains appropriate quantity and variety of activity therapy supplies.

+ Acts as a team member to meet the overall needs of the department.

+ Performs additional duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Qualifications

+ High School Diploma preferred

+ Degree or coursework in music, art or recreation preferred

+ Minimum one (1) year experience working with psychiatric, physical rehabilitation or medical patients.

+ Preferred previous recreation experience with an emphasis on groups.

+ CPI certification within 30 days of hire
