    New England Cancer Specialists, has an rewarding opportunity for an experienced Clinical Research Nurse, in our Westbrook (Rock Row), Maine office. The Clinical Research Nurse will work within a dedicated Research Department in an outpatient setting to provide professional nursing, research, and study services in support of assigned cancer clinical trials. Under the supervision of the Research Director and Principal Investigator(s), the Clinical Research Nurse will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned studies while also providing nursing care and support to study participants in accordance with study protocols. The Clinical Research Nurse will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with oncologists, advanced practice providers, principal investigators, other research staff, and sponsors to ensure patient safety, protocol adherence, and compliance with Institutional Review Board approvals as well as with federal and state regulations.

     

    NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from five separate locations in Maine and New Hampshire.     The new Rock Row Campus represents a unique collaboration between New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) and our patients, thoughtfully designed to create a comfortable and inviting home for excellent oncology care in New England. This state-of-the-art facility brings together a comprehensive range of services under one roof, including surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, genetic counseling, survivorship programs, nutrition support, and behavioral health counseling. Every detail of the campus reflects a commitment to patient-centered care, ensuring that individuals and their families feel supported throughout their cancer journey in a warm and welcoming environment.

    Job Duties:

    + Coordinate, manage, and provide nursing support for phase I - IV oncology clinical trials.

    + Oversee planning, scheduling and implementation of day-to-day study activities and procedures.

    + Perform medical tests, procedures, and assessments including, but not limited to, blood collection (venipuncture, ports, central lines, and peripheral IV), IV placement, therapeutic phlebotomy, vital signs, and electrocardiograms as required by the study.

    + Perform injections and IV infusion therapy (IV starts, PICC line/Port Access, infusion pump operation) utilizing aseptic technique.

    + Maintain patient care standards and assure that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment, and documentation are completed safely and effectively.

    + Provide patient education at chairside regarding therapy patient is receiving.

    + Follow established protocols to maintain clean and safe working environments. Safeguards self and others against the hazards of toxic drugs, disposes of hazardous waste according to approved protocol.

    + Calculate/verify AUC dosing, CrCl, IVIG dosing.

     

    Travel: Some travel to our satellites as needed.

    Required Experience:

    Education and Experience:

    + Associate degree in nursing required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred

    + Nurse licensure within State of Maine required.

    + A minimum of 2 years of recent, professional nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, or similar setting is required.

    + Previous clinical research experience preferred.

    + Oncology experience preferred.

    + ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification required within first year of employment.

    + Research certification (e.g., CCRP, CCRC) to be obtained within first 3 years of employment.

    + OCN certification preferred

    + Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification. Expected to obtain and maintain during employment if not already certified.
