As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing our manufacturing value chain for a specific set of products. This challenging position requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and hands-on experience in manufacturing processes. You'll be responsible for ensuring our production capabilities meet scale demands, evaluating make-vs-buy decisions, and continuously improving our manufacturing processes. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and shape the future of our production systems.
Specific Job Duties shall include, but not be limited to:
Production Engineering
o Lead the design of custom automated machinery and tooling systems, mechanisms, and components.
o Work with technicians and other engineers (SMEs) hands-on, building prototype and production product and supporting hardware for internal and external use.
o Offer ongoing support to the production team during the build and commissioning phases, ensuring designs are executed effectively.
o Provide technical leadership and mentorship to fellow engineers, including reviewing, approving, and guiding their design work.
o support make vs buy decisions for sub-assemblies in the value stream;
o Work with contract manufacturers within the critical product value stream to develop and execute repeatable, sustained processes for quick-turn development as well as at-scale production and testing.
o Be on site at current and future operations partners to ensure technical success for the value stream, solve ongoing production issues, improve capacity and evaluating potential partners.
o Support optimization of supply chain, production and test activities to ensure production output goals & business objectives are met.
o Create travelers, SOPs, test procedures required for successfully manufacturing hardware at scale.
o Evaluate opportunities to accelerate the scalability of production output and product development.
o Support the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
Cross-functional
o Support the execution of MRB activities
o 3+ years of relevant experience working with OEM suppliers and manufacturing operations building complex hardware/software systems
o 3+ years experience in engineering, manufacturing, or quality within the aerospace/defense, automotive, or medical device fields
o Experience working in a ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 regulated environment
o Working knowledge of product development methodologies such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Change Management, and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
o Hands on experience using mechanical and electrical metrology tools/instruments
o Working knowledge of electro-mechanical design and relevant manufacturing processes
Requirements and Education
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelors or Master's degree in a technical field such as mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, physics, industrial engineering, electrical engineering
• 3-7 years of experience in Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Strategic Sourcing or in design of electromechanical hardware.
• Experience with detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and FEA,
• Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and Y14.5M-2009 standards.
• Experience with robotics and/or production automation (integration of off-the-shelf automation technologies, vision systems, sensors, controllers)
• Personal experience physically manufacturing hardware via any means (machining, fabrication, soldering, assembly, etc.) Work on personal or extracurricular projects is a plus.
• A genuine interest in mechanical design, robotics, process engineering and thirst for driving improvements.
• Proficient with Microsoft suite
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in the assembly and test of precision mechanisms.
• Exposure to ISO 9001/AS 9100 quality systems.
• Experience with high mix low volume manufacturing and suppliers
• Experience with electromechanical hardware
• Experience with Python / Matlab and experimental data collection
