Position Summary:
The Newark College of Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Chair of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department.
We are seeking candidates at the rank of Full Professor with a demonstrated record of scholarship, strategic leadership, and mentorship.
Essential Functions:
-Lead the development and advancing of a compelling vision for the MIE department, aligned with the strategic plan of the university.
-Coordinate and lead the educational activities of the department, including curriculum development, effective and efficient curriculum delivery, and educational innovation.
-Coordinate and lead the development of the department’s research agenda, joint efforts to secure intramural and extramural research support, and improvements of the research infrastructure.
-Coordinate and lead recruiting of students to the department’s programs at all levels, including high quality Ph.D. candidates.
-Supervise the search and recruiting of new faculty members, including high-potential researchers in growing areas.
-Serve as an effective and productive liaison to the university’s administration, research funding agencies, policy making bodies, and industry.
-Serve as an engaged member of the dean’s leadership team, contributing to the overall development of the college’s resources, direction, and success.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Ph.D. or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a closely-related area. Professional and personal attributes that merit academic appointment at the Full Professor level.
-Significant experience in academic teaching and a commitment to high-quality education. Interest in advancing engineering education programs, new pedagogical methods, and new modes of education delivery.
-A proven record of scholarship, demonstrating the ability to attract external research support, educate and mentor graduate students, develop and publish original findings, and exhibit intellectual leadership in the profession.
-A record of excellent leadership and management skills suitable for the leader of a world-class research and education program.
-A record of professional engagement with organizations such as professional associations, industrial corporations, government labs, decision-making/policy bodies and multi-university centers.
-The ability to work and collaborate with groups and individuals from diverse backgrounds and a wide variety of origins, viewpoints, and objectives.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $120,000-$200,000 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
