Pay Range: $32,842.00 to $47,786.00 depending on Experience

What’s the Job?

A Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists by ensuring the smooth operation of a pharmacy. Pharmacy technicians often work in various settings like retail pharmacies, hospitals, or long-term care facilities. They are invaluable members of the pharmacy team, ensuring patients receive their medications safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Accurately preparing and dispensing prescribed medications

• Labeling and packaging medications

• Ensuring correct dosages and measuring out medication using proper techniques

• Managing the pharmacy’s inventory by ordering, receiving, and stocking medications

• Monitoring expiration dates and removing outdated or damaged medications

• Ensuring shelves and work areas remain organized and clean

• Maintaining accurate patient records

• Processing insurance claims and performing billing tasks

• Handling pharmacy-related administrative tasks, such as filing, updating patient profiles, and maintaining records

• Interacting with patients to obtain and verify their prescriptions

• Providing information and answering questions regarding medications and their use

• Assisting patients with understanding their insurance benefits and co-pays

• Adhering to all relevant pharmacy laws, regulations, and standards

• Ensuring accurate documentation for controlled substances

• Assisting with audits and inspections to ensure compliance

Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Certified or licensed as a pharmacy technician (requirements vary by region)

• Proficient in using pharmacy software and other related technology

• Good understanding of medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, and medication names

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and multitask
