    Job Summary

    In order to support quality initiatives for inpatient and outpatient care, this position will have dual reporting to the Quality Department and to the Sr. Director of Internal and Executive Communication in the Department of Communication. This role will serve as the point-of-contact for all internal communication activities within the Quality Department, including advising and supporting executive leaders on communication strategies and tactics. This position will implement effective employee communication and support change management initiatives across the inpatient adult enterprise, based on Quality's strategic direction and priorities. This role will provide support for organizationalchange and developing a culture of caring, teamwork, trust, innovation, and inclusion. Additionally, this role will provide executive communication support for the chief medical officer and their leadership team.

    Responsibilities*

    **55%** Provide all communication support for Quality executive leadership, based on strategic direction and priorities. Support leadership and executive positioning by determining effective ways to motivate all levels of staff using communication. Develop in-depth knowledge of the Quality Department and project teams within the clinical enterprise. Collaborate with other key stakeholders to positively impact engagement, culture, and organizational effectiveness. Writes and maintains communications content for various delivery methods. Provide all communication support for Quality executive leadership, based on strategic direction and priorities. Demonstrate collaboration and teamwork both with internal and external stakeholders. Exercise decision-making skills as well as forward thinking in developing creative solutions.

    **10%** Coordinate and develop communications for large projects, multiple projects and projects with high visibility. Identifies appropriate delivery methods, including presentations, targeted email, printed documents, newspaper articles, and web pages. Analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action with authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Manage vendors who provide creative support for employee-directed initiatives, including but not limited to designers and printers, freelance writers, marketing specialist, speech writers ? as needed.

    **20%** Support chief medical officer for all executive communications to the institutional and the Office of Clinical Affairs. This support also extends to the CMO leadership team as needed and appropriate.

    **5%** Increase employee engagement and identify and train champions for internal programs designed to improve organizational effectiveness.

    **10%** Collaboration with project teams and other key stakeholders on content prioritization: Work closely with employee and leadership communication team to align organizational effectiveness, value initiative and project management communication efforts with broader employee and leadership communication strategies and priorities. Develop, track and monitor communication measurements that are strategic, measurable, timely and realistic. Serve as a communication coordinator for specific special projects or departments. Work with other constituents in the Department of Communication to improve relationships across units of the UMHS.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Minimum of an undergraduate degree in communication-related field: marketing, communication, public relations, strategic communication, journalism, business communication or relevant field

    + 0-5 years professional experience in public relations, promotions, marketing or communications in a professional setting

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft communications using proper grammar and spelling.

    + Able to proofread communications written by others and edit for accuracy.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word, and Adobe Acrobat

    + Basic knowledge of graphic design software including Canva and Adobe Suite or similar programs; ability to work with graphic designers to create digital signs, screensavers, and other visual media needs

    + Basic knowledge of photography and videography; ability to plan and execute video scripting and production; coordinates with video team on editing and final production of videos.

    + Basic knowledge of how to use website content management systems such as SharePoint.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Direct experience in a health care and/or academic medical center

    + Experience supporting executive communication

    + Comfortable in a multi-layered organization with complex relationship and executive reporting

    + Proven experience generating client satisfaction and developing solutions in complex matrixed organizations

    + Experience maintaining electronic communication vehicles, websites, blogs, social media

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
