Position Summary:
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the senior management team, providing leadership and support in the areas of student services and academics. This individual will report to the Director of Athletics and to the Division of Academic Affairs and Research, through the Dean of University College.
The Associate Director of Athletics for Student Services will ensure the department’s goals support and advance priorities of the university and help to facilitate academic achievement, student success, retention, and graduation of student-athletes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Supervises advisors, learning specialists, and tutors to coordinate academic support services for student athletes
+ Assists in recruiting new student athletes to campus, serving as a representative of the University; this includes meeting prospective student athletes and their families and attending recruiting events
+ Troubleshoots issues with faculty, coaches, and other campus constituents
+ Evaluates and categorizes each student athlete based upon academic profile and performance. Works with coaching staff to ensure each player's academic progress in monitored
+ Coordinates weekly coaches' and advising staff meetings; keeps all parties apprised of critical issues, policies, procedures, and academic deadlines related to student athletes
+ Review, track, and audit all components of the NCAA Academic Performance Program, which includes APR and GSR; monitor all aspects of the Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) to meet university goals and standards
+ Develop relationships campus-wide by attending University College meetings, faculty-staff functions, and any other events as directed by the Athletics Director and Dean of University College
+ Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and current software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and email)
+ Good judgment in dealing with highly confidential information
+ Understand and interpret formalized policies, guidelines, rules, and regulations, and simplify and condense complex data, rulings, and interpretations
+ Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and handle highly sensitive and often controversial issues in a positive light
+ Contribute to and support the department, college, and university strategic plan
+ Assist with day-to-day issues with particular sports
+ Diplomatically and professionally solve issues dealing with recruiting and academic eligibility
+ Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of University, Sun Belt Conference, and NCAA rules and procedures
Knowledge of NCAA, SBC, and applicable conference rules, regulations and procedures relating to intercollegiate athletics and academic compliance, eligibility and certification
Knowledge of management and supervision of a team of academic advisors and other positions within an academic advising program
Knowledge of higher education general administrative policies and procedures, especially those related to athletics
Ability to supervise professional and clerical workers
Proficiency in written and oral communication
Ability to counsel students and parents in NCAA legislation and institutional matters

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Bachelor's Degree in a related field
Five (5) years of athletic administration-related experience
