Job Summary

Surgical ICU

To provide acute intensive inpatient care and perform selective medical services under the direction of practice physicians.

Duties include:

+ Obtain thorough medical history and physical examinations, as well as perform daily assessments.

+ Records findings of examinations, assessments and plan of care in H&P, consults or discharge summaries.

+ Performs a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures.

+ Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications required for procedures.

+ Orders and interprets laboratory and radiology examinations.

+ Determines treatment plan for patient.

+ Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.

+ Acts as a patient advocate for the population served.

+ Attends, participates and contributes to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested.

+ Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.

Qualifications

+ Education: Masters of Physician Assistant Studies, Masters of Nurse Practitioner, or similar degree conferred by an accredited program, such as NCCPA and ARC-PA, required. ACNP, AGACNP, PNP-AC or NNP board certification preferred according to population served.

+ Experience: One year of experience working in general or other surgical subspecialty, emergency/inpatient medicine or comparable experience. 3 to 5 years experience preferred.

+ Licensure/Certification: Current NP or PA license in appropriate state, registry required w/state medical board, current DEA registry or eligible for DEA and ACLS( not required for the in- office only NP/PA) and BLS Required. ATLS(after hire)

+ Additional Skills (required):

This is a hybrid position requiring both general trauma and intensive care proficiency. Candidates should possess good communication skills, both verbal and written, general computer knowledge is required; ability to work independently, yet in collaboration with physicians, nurses and care team. Ability to use problem-solving, decision making, and creative thinking skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing clinical environment.

+ General Surgery/Trauma Surgery skills (not all inclusive):

+ Bronchoscopy, central lines, arterial lines etc.
