The School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering invites applications for an Instructor and Ecampus Lab Coordinator position. The incumbent will hold two appointments, a 0.35 FTE , fixed term, 12-month Instructor position, with reappointment at the discretion of the School Head, and a 0..65 FTE , ECampus Lab Coordinator, a 12-month, professional faculty position, reflecting duties in both academic and administrative areas.
The School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering ( CBEE ) provides formal education to undergraduate and graduate students, conducts public service activities, and performs sponsored and unsponsored research for the benefit of various entities, including the state of Oregon, private industry, and the federal government. CBEE offers on-campus and Ecampus courses and degrees and has a growing need for a position to develop, coordinate, and manage laboratory delivery for Ecampus programs and to coordinate those activities with on-campus laboratory delivery.
The Ecampus Laboratory Coordinator develops and delivers assigned Ecampus courses and provides oversight, coordination, management, and logistics support for the delivery of Ecampus laboratory courses. As an Instructor, this role is part of a team of instructors for the online Chemical Engineering program in CBEE . The individual will teach core and/or elective chemical engineering courses, primarily in an on-line environment. Additionally, this role supports the Ecampus laboratory teaching program by coordinating with other Ecampus instructors and the CBEE Development Engineer on the development, testing, and\troubleshooting of laboratory activities that will be used by students and maintaining laboratory equipment and preparing labs and lab modules for use by students and staff. As appropriate, the successful candidate will work with university staff in Facilities Services, EH&S, internal support, and contractors and vendors as needed to facilitate Ecampus lab development and safety standards for the three types of Ecampus labs that will be delivered:
+ Remote Labs: Students will remotely control experiments using larger process equipment via supervisory control and data acquisition systems. This setup allows students to perform experiments from their home locations. Process equipment will be staffed by on-site personnel during remote operation. The Ecampus Laboratory Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating with on-campus and Ecampus instructors, teaching assistants, and the CBEE Development Engineer to schedule and staff the remote laboratories, as well as coordinating maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
+ At home Labs: Kits containing the supplies and equipment necessary to complete some lab experiments will be mailed to students, enabling them to conduct hands-on experiments at home. The Ecampus Laboratory Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating with Ecampus instructors to assemble, test, package and mail at-home kits to enrolled students. Additionally, the Ecampus Laboratory Coordinator will be responsible for managing the return of the kits to the School of CBEE , performing inventory on component parts, restocking and repairing kits, and managing storage between course offerings.
+ Simulation Labs: These labs will provide a simulated environment for students to perform experiments virtually. The Ecampus Laboratory Coordinator may participate in the development and implementation of these laboratories in classes they are assigned to develop and/or teach and will coordinate with other Ecampus laboratory instructors to share information and best practices.
