    Here’s a Glimpse of the Job

     

    The Menet Laboratory, part of the Department of Biology at Texas A&M College of Arts and Sciences, is seeking a Part-Time Technician I to join the research team. Under general supervision, this position performs entry-level, semi-skilled technical support work involving routine research tasks. The Technician will also support laboratory operations by ensuring compliance with OSHA and EHS standards, maintaining equipment, performing lab and prep room cleanup, and assisting with inventory and supply orders.

    Opportunities to Contribute

    + Manages the lab's mouse colony, including pairing, weaning, and genotyping animals across multiple transgenic lines.

    + Maintains detailed colony and breeding records.

    + Perform tasks consistent with the healthy maintenance of the animal colony.

    + Assists and train undergraduate student workers in managing the lab mouse colony.

    + Oversees inventory and orders parts and supplies as needed.

    + Ensures laboratories compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) specifications.

    + Maintains laboratory equipment and performs routine cleanup of both the lab and prep room areas.

    + Maintains detailed records of procedures performed.

    + Participates in training and professional development sessions as needed.

    Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + At least two years of related experience (in a research lab in the field of life science).

    + Ability to move light or medium objects with assistance (ability to lift, carry, load or unload up to 20 lbs. of materials).

    A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

    + Bachelor’s degree in a biological sciences discipline.

    + Demonstrated team-working skills

    + Experience working in a wet-lab environment.

    + Proficiency in pipetting, aliquoting, dilution, and solution preparation.

    + Rodent handling and animal husbandry experience, including breeding.

    + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

    + Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

    + Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.

    + Excellent communication and presentation skills.

    + Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

     

    Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.

     

    Please note: This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding. This is a part-time position.
