    Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description

     

    As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Space Systems, you will lead quality assurance across the full satellite system lifecycle—from design and development through integration, testing, and launch—ensuring compliance with NASA, DoD, ISO, and AS standards. This role offers the opportunity to operate with autonomy in a collaborative team environment, supported by a multi-functional team based internationally.

    Responsibilities

    + Lead quality assurance for satellite programs from concept to operational handover.

    + Apply and interpret standards such as NASA NPR 8735.2, MIL-STD-1540, and MIL-STD-883.

    + Establish and maintain ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems.

    + Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and test teams to implement quality plans, risk assessments, and process controls.

    + Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and failure investigations.

    + Conduct internal, supplier, and system audits aligned with industry standards.

    + Define inspection criteria and oversee verification and validation during integration and testing.

    + Support root cause analysis and CAPA processes for nonconformances.

    + Maintain detailed quality documentation for compliance.

    + Mentor junior quality staff and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in FEA analysis and understanding of engineering simulations such as Finite Element Structural Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

    + Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Engineering, or other related STEM discipline, with typically 14 or more years of engineering or relevant experience (relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of education).

    + Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.

    + Strong background in thermal design and analysis for launch and orbital environments.

    + Experience with thermal, radiation, and convection software.

    + Experience with advanced thermal modeling using Thermal Desktops or similar.

    + Experience providing end-to-end thermal engineering support for spacecraft.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Background in the Space or Defense industry.

    + Familiarity with aerospace standards and tailoring.

    + Experience with CAD software.

    + Ability to lead trade studies and design details, size heaters, and select materials/coatings.

    + Define and execute subsystem/system thermal testing as needed to verify performance requirements or validate models.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
