    Are you passionate about meal administration for students with developmental disabilities? We are looking for a dedicated Food Service Worker to join our dynamic team here at our Green Acres Preschool in Tonawanda, New York!

    Primary Responsibilities and Expectations:

    + Responsible for the transportation of all meals and containers between the offsite pick-up and drop-off location at the preschool.

    + Assist the offsite kitchen staff as needed while meals are being prepared.

    + Organize school lunches by classroom based on the daily attendance spreadsheet.

    + Ensure meals are correct, served at the appropriate temperature, non-expired, and served on time.

    + Complete mileage forms daily to monitor food transportation.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    + High School or equivalent diploma PLUS one (1) year of experience in professional food service

    + A Valid NYS Driver's License and Approved Driving Record.

    + Ability to work the required Monday-Friday 8:30am-2:00pm schedule.

    + Knowledgeable on proper methods and procedures regarding food transportation and safety.

     

    Pay: $15.50 - $18.00 per hour (based on experience) – 27.5 hours per

     

    week, Monday-Friday 8:30am-2:00pm

     

    Hours: Part-Time, 27.5 hours per week, shifts may vary

    Job Description

    Food Service Worker

    Position Summary:

    The Food Service Worker is responsible for the transportation and administration of meals from an offsite location to Green Acres. This can include the transport of food containers, sorting meals for students based on dietary requirements, checking the quality of the food and reporting issues appropriately. May be assigned to any aspect of the school food service operation including preparation, serving, and clean-up/sanitation within the kitchen.

    Reporting Relationship:

    Receives general supervision from the Associate Director of Education Operations.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Responsible for the transportation of all meals and containers between the offsite pick-up/drop-off location and the Green Acres school

    + Assist the offsite kitchen staff as needed while waiting for meals to be prepared.

    + Organize lunches by classroom based on the daily attendance spreadsheet.

    + Differentiate between regular meals and specials for students with dietary requirements.

    + Communicate with the offsite kitchen and ADEO if meals/counts are incorrect, food is cold, items are expired, quantities low on milk, etc.

    + Report immediately all accidents/incidents to appropriate staff members.

    + Recognize potential and current problems; use effective problem-solving skills.

    + Test the temperature of lunches with a food thermometer before serving them.

    + Recalibrate a food thermometer weekly.

    + Track daily point of service forms and make sure classrooms are picking up breakfasts based on classroom attendance before food leaves your site.

    + Clean and sanitize work areas and all bins used to serve meals daily.

    + Use kitchen equipment and company van safely.

    + Complete a mileage form daily to monitor food transportation.

    + Monitor the clock to make sure meals are served on time.

    + Demonstrate flexibility necessary to accommodate changing needs.

    + Attend all mandated in-service sessions and display a willingness to attend specific trainings as required by the position and/or supervisor.

    + Performs other duties as required by supervisor.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements:

    High School or equivalent diploma PLUS one year of experience in professional food service. School food service experience a plus.

    A valid NYS driver's license and approved record is required.

     

    Knowledgeable on proper methods of transporting food, securing food equipment for transporting, temping food, serving food, reading dietary restrictions, tracking inventory, sanitation and safety, time/temperature control, positive communication with students/staff, and time management. Become familiar with HACCP Food Safety Manual and other materials provided in order to learn and follow policies and outlined procedures.

    + Mental Requirements:

     

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables. Must have organizational, oral communication, and decision-making skills. The ability to drive safely, show good judgment, be independent and self-managed, reliable, consistent, follow directions, and be punctual are critical for our students to receive acceptable food service daily.

     

    + Human Relations Skills:

     

    Ability to communicate clearly and in a positive manner in both oral and written form; maintain effective working relations with agency personnel; ability to maintain confidentiality; remain open to others’ ideas; must be able to work alone and/or with others. Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage demands and serve as an appropriate role model to the students. Must be dependable, reliable and follow instructions. Ability to adhere to and always maintain a professional behavior and represent the agency in a professional manner.

     

    + Equipment Operation:

     

    Ability to operate kitchen appliances; dishwasher, food thermometer, agency vehicle/van, Cambro, kitchen cleaners, chemicals, stove/oven/grill, slicer, and ability to come in contact with normal cafeteria dust/dirt.

    This position is NON-EXEMPT from the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standard Act.
